Pit Filler Not Clear And Abit Rubbery!!!

Post by kammi999 »

Hi,

having abit problem with my pit filler, it tends to be abit soft and not clear as glass. which means you can clearly see the fill on the repair from a slight distance.
can anyone tell me what the problem is??

Thanks.

Howdy Kammi
You need to be more specific:
1. Are you using a film tab to evenly disperse the resin?
2. How are you scraping off the excess?
3. Are you polishing afterwards and by what method?
4. What wattage curing lamp are you using?
5. What amperage is your power supply and what type / source of power supply are you using?
6. How long are you curing for?
7. What is the refractive index of your pit filler?

What do you mean by rubbery? How rubbery? Remember one thing, Glass is glass and resin is plastic.

Have you done anything that would have contaminated the pit filler? Pit filler right out of the container should be clear. Any other colour would make me think something has happened to it. Contact the manufacture of the filler and inform them of your problem.

Whose filler are you using and where were you trained. This will give us the information to answer your question correctly. I take it you went on one of the UK's famous 3 hour training session's. When polishing a pit use the smallest amount of polish possible it is the last almost dry bit that works.

Hi,

-I am using a film tab
-scraping it at 90 degrees
-am polishing with pit polish with drill
-using a 12v lamp
-using a 12v battery pack
-curing for 5min have tried 10 min!
-refractive index of pit filler is 1.53

the filler feels like hard rubber, you can even poke it out with a scribe.
the filler is from Glass technics.

look forward to hearing you opinions!!!!!
Thanks.

Also just to make a note, the pit is clear when I apply it, and is mostly clear when i take the tabs off,

I don't think it is the resin that is the problem, I think I might not be polishing properly!

I spoke to the supplier and am using the right technique the resin is O.K, but I think I need to try out few polishing methods, can any of you guys give me some advice????

dont use a drill. its overkill. i put a half pea size amount of polish on my paper towel and rub it about 10 strokes and its crystal clear. i use delta pit filler.

I also use resins and curing equipment from the same supplier as you and obtain very good results. I suggest you just experiment using different amounts of pressure, a different scraping / polishing action until happy. It appears you are new in the game, so have some fun practicing as it is a great industry to get into whatever country you are based in. Sometimes over-polishing can dullen the resin. Treat your repairs as a lady - gently, gently otherwise they will bite back lol. As the saying goes "Practice makes Perfect".
