I worked in Mexico City, Mexico for Corona Beer as a Consultant for them for 2 years before I started repairing glass. Before I could be BROUGHT into the comapny to work for them Their GOVERNMENT required them to try and fill that job with someone from Mexico. This took them almost 2 months of weeding through people that called themselves consultants. I had over 21 years as a Consultant and had resumes and all kinds of awards. Anyways that couldn't fill this position from down there so I was hired. I was given a very good Interpretuer and we are still friends to this day. He was educated in the US and only went back home due to his family needs (Sickness). While I was there I did learn some Spanish from him. I could order my food,drinks, buy groceries-simple things. I couldn't carry on a conversation with some rapid speaking Latino. If someone would speak slowly I could get by. Most of the people I was working with still stay in touch with me via emails. At first they hated me as they knew I was making BIG money. After some time I trained them, loaned them pesos (which I was always paid back) ate with them in Nicer places, and we bonded and got the job done. These people work hard and for little money. I used to do the same thing I was taring them for and 26 years ago I was making $28 per hour doing that job. In Mexico if they brought home $60 a week that was a good job down there. Their GOVERNMENT dictates what they make. Can we blame them for wanting to come here and better themselves? If you have never been there it is hard for you to grasp all there is wrong down there. I am not siding with them just stateing facts. For instance here a descent laptop will cost $400 on sale or closeout. Down there the cheapest laptop will cost you $1800. A new Corvette Coupe here is $45,000. Down there the cheapest I saw was over $80,000. I checked as I used to own 2 while I was working down there.

I am AGAINST Illegals without the correct papers and documents. Here in my area Illegals are taking over the new housing construction. Why are we not mad at the Contractor for hiring them? There are guys in Arkansas that make their living (and a VERY NICE living) seeing that Illegals are brought to the US to work for pennies. This guy used to belong to the same Corvette Club that I did so I am stating facts that I know to be true.

I was in Dallas Texas last weekend as I went and bought some Glas Weld equipment from someone that was into Real Estate now and no longer in the repair business. I was shocked at all the Mexicans that were now living in this city. More than ever. I heard none speaking English. I am sure they were not all Legal.

These people are coming here for work that is not in their country and our Government allows this. Our big contractors and landscaping companies are hiring them. They work hard and long hours and don't complain.In my area they (illegals) are taking manual labor jobs (construction, landscaping, concrete, etc.) so far none I have heard of are into glass but am sure it is coming.

We need to rally our Senators,Representatives,Congressmen,Governors, etc to stop this and quick or our country will be taken over and already in schools in my area a second language is a required subject now.

Sorry for the long and boring post. I am not taking sides with anyone here and if this practice is left along by our government will be a huge problem shortly. We should remember when posting here we are all proffesionals and should conduct ourselves as such.

Now having grown up in the bay area and moved here from border in San Diego I am fully aware of the problems of undocumented people but that wasnt the point
The point was you jumped on the undocumented as the source of the $10 repair and generalised them when you dont have a bit of proof that they indead are undocumented all you know is they look different and that falls into the same group as saying "all these darn mexicans are stealing my job charging less" and whether you ment it that way or not it sounds racist to me. The normal response to something like that is whoops sorry didnt come out right what I ment was this. But I havnt heard that yet now im a guy whose family owns well over 7 figures worth of property in CA and AZ so I am there often love the people and know the different cultures there have played a huge part in making them the cool places they are. I have children of mixed race so i tend to be over reactive to things I see as racist and apologize to no one for it. I have been arrested twice protesting the South African Consolate so yea i stay active in civil rights movement and apologize to no one for it .
Jerry stated in his original blurb that the ACLU was some how bad as well yup a orginization thats sole purpose is to protect the bill of rights yup thats a bad thing as far as respecting my elders I respect those that earn it not just anyone who happens to be older than me and quite honestly jerry you hant earned it.

But back to the original point which wasnt a diatribe on wheter illeagal aliens are bad for our society but was in fact the statement that quit blaming others for your failure look in the mirror thats the guy whos fault it is and do the things needed to rectify the problem. Take the advice or dont it doesnt matter to me but if you want to earn a living doing this ive got 1099,s totaling over 80k so far and am waiting for a couple more before I file and can honestly say there isnt a single week last year that I worked over 30hrs succeed or dont its up to you jump on the its the Mexicans or its Safelite band wagon to explain your lack of success if you want all I offer is the way to making $$ someone doesnt like what I have to say dont listen thats what America is all about

A lady wrote the best letter in the editorials in ages!!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Her point:
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors.
I've done all the things you don't like to do.
I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters:


You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me and to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.



It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself.



I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house.


And what a deal it is for me!!!


I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.

Our county, other than the Native Americans, who got the real shaft, was what? Immigrants. What's the difference, well they all wanted better life and embraced all of the requirements to become an AMERICAN citizen including being legal and learning to read write and speak ENGLISH. They were proud to be an AMERICAN.

What we have today in MOST cases is the exact opposite. A bunch of FREE LOADERS, hard working or not does not qualify you for a sympathy green card. Some with bad intentions. They want the benefits of this country but do not embrace the requirements and want us to adopt their culture.

IMHO as a PROUD AMERICAN, if you are not here legally or trying to be, your intentions are not in our countries best interests. You need to be deported ASAP.

I do not think we should not stereotype because not all are illegal or have bad intentions. Unfortunately in my area NY,NJ,PA area there are more illegal than not so it has become easy to have a negative slant on the issue. I love when immigration does spot checks at the airport and the cleaners start running like swarming bee's to avoid be nabbed.

I think people of ANY nation who are here illegally should be sent back to where they came from, We can only look at this issue the Logical way, Once emotions come into play everything goes down hill.

Everyone should be legal and pay taxes and other fees, essentially pay their way according to the rules of this country, then and only then will we have a level playing field, Its the only fair way for everyone Legal.

People who hire Illegal's should be jailed, fined, highly taxed and or put out of business in order to make up these monies lost by honest tax payers of this country.
You will notice many large corporations hire Illegal's, people in the Food and Hotel Industry just to name two, People argue the cost of these things would go up and we would pay more, that is a weak argument, As someone mentioned before we don't get a price break because an illegal has put up the sheet rock and siding on our house, No The builder made even more profit, that's the real truth.

I truly believe illegal Mexicans put a hardship on Mexicans that where born here or came her Legally, I'm sure many legal Mexicans get painted by the Illegal brush.

I came here as an immigrant by legal means, I did everything by the book, In order to pass the citizenship test I had to be able to read a sentence in English, I know I'm getting off the subject but don't I understand why the Voting instructions are written in 48 languages, if a person passed the citizen ship test they should be able to read voting laws printed in English.

The Government is well aware of all these problems, They could change things if they wanted, but NO they are bought off by the large corporations, The Gov't even lets people come here work in the fields then take their money back to Mexico. We the legal people are getting screwed and its not likely to change.

Some glass shops here in town do chip repairs for $10 and they are legal taxs paying Americans. They now realize they can get $15 or more. If they want to give there work away thats there business.

They do pay tax on gas and sales
