Premium Bond ?

Post by AGSS »

I read somewhere that acid free resins do not have the lasting power of other resins, Can you clear this up for me Jeff.

Also, I believe Magna Bond is 15-20 cps, about 8-10 cps more than the Premium Bond resin. Magna Bond has a higher bonding strength as well. I use this to repair chips to cracks and have had great success with it. Then again I have had great success with the Premium Bond as well. If either one of these will serve your needs then you wont be disappointed. As for the acid content being lower, I have not had any failures brought to my attention yet.

SGT, you mean to say that you only use the Magnibond resin to do all types of repairs?

I have both right now but when the Premium Bond is gone I will be soley using Magna Bond for all repairs, chips or cracks 6-10" alike. Like I said, if either resin fits your needs, you should be very pleased.

In your opinion, you would prefer Premium bond over Magnibond or does it depend on the kind of break you will be looking at?

The premium bond resin, being about 8-10cps would really be a good resin for those tight breaks more like stars and batwings. However, would it be able to hold well for a break like a combo or say a bullseye. I feel that maybe the Magnibond because of its higher cps, would be a better alternative for the latter two. Correct me if i am wrong.

I certainly can understand you mindset on resin application. Okay, the differences between the two DK resins PB & MB are very small with MB being a little stronger, thicker, less acid etc, etc(see below). I have used both in all applications except long crack repair(12" and up as I do not do this) and have had very good success. DK could ship MB in a PB bottle and visa versa and I do not think anyone would know the difference during a repair they are so close.(I am not suggesting that they do this). It seems like MB was created to be a new and improved version of the PB.

Now, keeping with your thought that a thicker resin would be better suited for certain breaks such as bulls then why not look at DK Pro Bond 40 or 60. Then use MB or PB on the stars and you are covered based on your needs.

Honestly there are some real good resins out there and DK is right there at the front of the pack with the rest.
