No matter what polishing system you use these glasses will never be optically perfect. The cost of having someone try to polish these would be more than new glass. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and lay out the money. This was an honest mistake. Talk to your customer and maybe you can work something out with them. Like paying the deductable for new w/s's. Also check with your garage owners insurance they may cover this or part of it. Good Luck.

I know you PROBABLY do not want to do this but contact Glas Weld and see if they have anyone in your area to help you out. I am hearing from Glas Weld that lots of building contractors are buying the scratch removal kits to clean up scratches from their painters. If I were in your area I would be all over this glass for you.Remember the only pad we have that will NOT distort is a 6 inch pad.The 4 and 2 inch WILL leave distortion and coming back with a 6 is SUPPOSED to get rid of the distortion. I was never brave enough to try this and stayed with a 6 inch and it takes just a little longer.

All polishing systems remove material. When you remove material(glass) from a window you change the refractive angle that light is passed through the glass. This results in distortion. Any system using cerium oxide or a abrasive system removes glass and will result in distortion. The people that claim no distortion with their systems are lying to you so they can sell it to you. If you have a piece of wood with a 1/16 inch gouge in it, could you sand it away and leave no dent where you sanded??????????????

There is obviously a scratch removal professional here. I just can't figure out who it is.

There is somebody here that has never sat in a vehicle with a windshield that has been polished to remove a scratch and I can't figure who it is. You abrade glass it distorts. A windshield is the last thing you want to do this to. You open your self up to a big LAWSUIT if the owner gets into a wreck and blames you. sgailey What kind of vehicle is this? Most newer M/homes have # on the glass under the logos. Some of these are reasonably priced. Post the info and I will see what I can do on pricing for you. Lee

I would still tackle this job as I have polished many windshields and all but 1 I charged for and customer was happy (The one I didn't charge for went through a barbed wire fence and I couldn't get out 1 of the scratches but it was the worse one I had ever done so I went for it to find just what I could do, it wasn't that the customer wasn't happy). I would have to see the glass first and feel the sratches. I am confident in my skill and equipment to do this.

sgailey, sounds to me that this could lead to something good. If the windshield is to be replaced have someone polish it. If it works out this could be a good add on to your kit! Sorry this happened to you, but their is always a positive to everything negative.

sgailey,

Sorry to say this but you'll probably have to replace these shields. It's not that they can't be restored but the amount of time it would take with the damage you described caused by using the drill and pad wouldn't be feasible to polish it out.

Lee, I seldom disagree with you because your an icon in the replacement industry but I also have to say your not a glass polishing expert. Glass can be polished and restored with no measured distortion. It all depends on how deep the damage is. Glass is a liquid in a solid state and just like buffing paint, molecules will move and fill with the right heat, polishing compound and pressure applied.

Who is this company that claim to polish without distortion using this "molecular movement/heat process"?, anyone use it?, and how long would it take to say, polish out a standard example of wiper scratch?.
Is a customer always right? - No, but they are always the customer.
