This subject interests me a lot.
I'm not so sure Vin etching is a rip off, Some but not all Insurance companies give a discount on cars with Vin etching, They don't usually fall for a con.

I watched a show on Discovery or TLC and thieves said they would avoid a vin etched car and move on to a car without etching, it would be much easier/quicker to sell with no hassle of replacing glass which can be expensive. I don't think etching would deter a joy rider, but I do think it would help stop real thieves who sell complete or parts cars.

Dealers do make a high profit from etching, No doubt about it, I see some cars that have been etched three times.
I bought a system and couldn't get any dealers to buy into the idea, I was going to etch cars for $30 wholesale, they would retail it for $199 making $160 per car, they said No, they didn't want to push anymore items on to customers, That blew me away.
Some now sell these GPS recovery systems, what do they sell for? $700 - $900, personally I think the GPS systems are overrated, Don't you have to know your car is stolen before you can switch the locate system on, the car could be hundreds of miles away or stripped before you know its been stolen, I think the police are more into personal crime than looking for stolen cars, the GPS systems do offer some compensation but that is just a numbers game.

Good luck to Starquest for removing the etching, I'm curious how long does it take to remove the etching? Thanks.

Id love input from anyone.

chips1144.

Vin ecthing kits can be bought and applied by anybody, including the car dealer detail and wash guys! What they can't do is remove them without the proper glass polishing equipment and training.

How long does it take to remove etching? About the same time it takes for them to apply it. Vin ecthing is nothing more than a big a scam.....kind of like rustproofing was in the 80's and early 90's!

StarQuest.
Are using the glass weld or IPS glass polishing system, How much of this removal work do you get? $$$$ per week

Are you making real money? would this be something worth getting into?
I've never had a request to have it removed but I try not to be narrow minded and any opportunity is an opportunity. Please Wise me up.
