new laws about repair

Post by rottdawg »

Hey Guys,

I was talking to a friend of a freind who works for a windshield replacement shop and he said that there is work on a law that would make only "full service shops" able to repair windshields. Has anybody heard about this?

Thanks

I don't think this would ever happen if a free country... I think we would see many warning signs before this would ever happen... there would be government controls on what a person could put into their own body, the government would steal a portion of the money producers earn to further their altruistic goals, the government would dictate employee wages and hours worked, it would develope a flawed mandatory retirement system that goes bankrupt..., .... na, I think we would see lots of warning signs...

Don't say it can't happen. If you seach the archives you will find a lot of info about proposed and passed licensing legislation that has threatened this industry in several states. Read up on it and call your senator in Michigan to find out if it's happening there. Everyone who has not should read these threads, you may be surprised and should be outraged at how these things can go down.

Funny post Shep. Just be careful Big Brother might be watching.:eusa_shhh

Furthermore Kevin, if there is legislation of this nature pending in your state /city , please make us, your industry peers, aware of the names and contact info for the descision makers... I would be happy to drop a line...

Currently, the NGA is pushing for an ANSI standard for windshield repair called ROLAGS. (Repair of laminated auto glass standards) They have also been trying to get legislation sponsored and passed in each State that would require Certification of all repair and replacement technicians. CT has already passed the law.

Personally, I think no replacements should be allowed unless a repair is not possible.

Personally, I did not hire my government officials to supervise my commercial transactions. My customers should not be required to obtain "Customer Certification, my hamburger server does not need to be certified, and my doctors also don't need government certification... how about a little free market capitalism?

There should not be any government standards. If someone is concerned about a slight scratch and they want a new windshield, that is there choice. If they want to use a tech that is worthless, that is there choice. What next, will carpenders, grocery store clerks, plumbers, tow truck opperators.... have to prove themselves to the government before being allowed to pursue their happiness?:icon_roll

My feelings exactly. I have seen a lot of posts supporting NWRA and some others that support regulation of our businesses by bureaucrats. That doesn't seem to be "political" but if one makes the case for a free society with quotes from those that champion a free state, you can draw some fire from the forum director.
Now that being said there is a place for pure political argument, even vociferous writing, and this is probably not the place. But when legislation to tie our hands with multitudes of regulations so that some other can have power over us is encouraged, I think it is the place for those who believe in a society free from prior restraint from petty tyrants to be given a voice.

Inundating the instigators of these kinds of thing works, we stopped some really bad laws restricting RV parking in Montana by sending a lot of emails to the city council and mayor etc. I even saw a post begging us to stop emailing as the proposal was dead. Of course there are a lot more RVers than there are WSR techs.

I may not want to use a licensed plumber but I certainly wouldn't use a doctor who didn't pass state certification (medical board)!

I think that at least a voluntary certification should help in establishing more credibility to this industry in the general publics eyes.
