I am for non gov't regulation and gov't regulation depending on the industry.

Take the airline industry for example, the gov't agency that governs us is the FAA. I can tell you from first hand knowledge, we all should be glad there is a governing agency with regulations in place that are to help ensure public safety. I do not think you would want any Tom, Dick or Harry working or flying your plane would you you? So gov't certification is a good thing here.

Now other industries less critical such as WSR do not necessarilly need gov't interaction but we as tech's might fare well from some sort of certification for a whole host of reasons.

So, I am for certification on level or another.

"Those who would trade their freedom for security will not get security nor deserve their freedom" Ben Franklin
Underwriters Laboratories I do not believe is a government entity, yet we trust them to review the safety of our electrical stuff.
Alternatives to established medical practice has been throttled since the 1890s when the ama sought the help of the government to force the people to accept their ideas about medicine.
I have dealt personally with housing and zoning, plumbing, electrical inspectors who have only to say the word to disrupt or destroy my business. That is if I don't kiss you know what.
All regulations of this type are called prior restraint, and are illegal under the contract that all elected officials and law enforcement are sworn to defend and protect. If you had a contract with your employer you would know what was in it, but most do not know what is in the Constitution or the reason it was put there. But most people are not only ignorant of their rights, but have been "educated" to the point that they demand that their own rights be violated along with all the rest of us.
And I don't think some of us get it, you cannot have ANY government certification or regulation, or it will expand until it swallows all of our liberty.

And could this regulation of the airline industry be the cause of the statement that I heard some time ago, that if you take all the miles flown by all the commercial passenger aircraft times the money that it cost to fly those miles minus the total expenses since the beginning of the aviation industry, that industry would be in the hole.
There, I've said it and I'm glad!!

I was not speaking to the industry as whole but how regulation pertaining to those individuals who are directly responsible for public safety within the airline industry are governed. You should be thankfull we are. As far as the industry as a whole maybe the general public should start paying more for there airfare for the luxury of flying. You can fly cheaper than you can ride the dog!

Some sort of regulation when implemented with good intentions is good for many reasons IMHO but you are entitled your opinion.
