Houston
Houston
FYI, I live in the Dallas, Texas area and have been thinking about the wsr busineshowever:; friday and saturday I was in Houston and I noticed a tent set up in a parking lot and thought I would get some first hand information so I pulled up to the tent and a person that looked homeless came up to the car with two repair kits in hand and before I said anything she started looking at my ws I got out of the car and told her what I was there for and she explained that she did not own the bus. and that her boss had several of these set up around Houston, I contunid to ask some questions but she seemed evasive I am sure she has been trained not to give out any information but I did get her to tell me that it only takes ten minites to repair a chip. They also had the free repair banner up.Looks to me like someone got the kits trained people of the streets and furnished the tools. I think this will be bad for this industry, what do you think ?

Re: Houston
Agreed. You must lok and be PROFESSIONAL in my opinion.
Re: Houston
Yes you are right but what concerns me is someone is doing the wsr in ten min. and from what I have read on this forum is that it takes at least 20 min. to repair , if people are going to put this type of operation on the street and just do a quick fix you know that there will be problems down the road, not to mention the insurance co . yhat paid you for a quality repair and I assume they will not be happy with any wsr service tech from that point on.GlasWeldTech;23860 wrote:Agreed. I guess in essence what I am saying is, Is This Not Bad For This Industry ?
Hope someone from houston replies.

Re: Houston
Many types of repairs take ten minutes some longer presentation is important in any business and looking like a pro is key to doing retail a nicely lettered shirt or company windbreaker on a clean cut person will sell many customers before you speak to them. Some metro area are saturated with people sitting on corners or under tents and the days of getting 10 to 15 $50 repairs a day by just sitting there are gone with competition comes lower prices and less easy work. Diversify and find a nitch for yourself and a good living can be made in thes areas with some salesmanship and quality product but if you are looking to make a killing being the retired guy sitting on the corner waiting for the money truck to arrive i would sugest another business

Re: Houston
I agree that some repairs can only take ten mins. but i have myself never compleated one in ten mins. and when your asking a customer to pay 30.00/35.00/40.00 dollors for a repair i would tend to take a little more time. Now far as it go,s with people on the street. tents and stands. this is where i learned from a man who had been at wr for 12 years. in 3 months i had gained more exsperience then i could in 1 year by myself. class thought me the basics, he thought the business. now i have a mobile service and stay busy. it,s a good start. tj
Re: Houston
Many repairs that I have done have actually taken about 7-10 minutes. However if you can engage the customer in conversation the repair takes much much longer, and a couple by prouducts of the repair taking longer is repeat customers, and increased customer satisfaction.

Re: Houston
it basic salesmanship people respond to 10-15 min better than as long as a half hour and once you have started understand if it take a little longer to do a good job its no different than the one hr photo or 10 min lube basic human nature

Re: Houston
Forgive me,I am not talking about someone that likes to look a little different I am talking about someone who looks nasty and the operation looks second class, you would have to seee this to understand what I am talking about. The whole operation looked very bad and the person doing the repairs chould not converse very well, the whole purpose of this post was to reflect on how the operation looked and that it gave the image of a fly by night operation and that to me said we will do the repair very cheap. I for one do not want to invest in a business that may be selling just price, there is no bottom to that, and if that is the case then I will look at something, now as for as apperance, if you are going to work in public there are starndards and if you are building a business you need to look like a pro.
If you like long hair thats fine but at the same time you can look like a pro and not someone thats homeless. Me, I thank long hair is just fine .
