Rescue,
Hold your head up high. What you have encountered is part of the business of wsr and the process of your learning curve into doing crack repairs successfully. I am pretty sure that this has happened to many of us here.

Preaching the Gospel of Windshield Repair.
Re: Should I Quit Crack Repair?
I told myself not to get involved in crack repairs if they are over 6 inches long.
The main drive to repair cracks or chips is , lets be honest about it , to make money, thats why we are in this business.
But I think it's better to tell the car owner to get a new windshield installed if the crack is longer than 6 inches and save yourself a lot off headaches in the long run.
I've got an acquaintance that installs new windshields where I refer them to.
And he refers them to me , when a car owner needs a chip, bullseye or up to 6 inches crack repaired , he is not set up to do these.
We sending each other business this way and we, esspecially me , stay out of problems.

Wow everything over 6 inches?
That would be half of my long cracks gone!
Instead of considering them lost revenue, I would and i look for a way to repair them!

Re: Should I Quit Crack Repair?
Just the liability involved in crack repair combined with the high failure rate keeps me away add that to the fact that my time is more valued than what you can get for a crack repair why bother? seriosly folks most windshields can be replaced in the $200 range and there are lots of better ways to make money in the field that produce happy customers and good references the old Joe Girard rule of 250 applies here unhappy people will tell all of thier friends and relatives happy people may tell no one but its better than bad press. Me I pass on Crack just say no!

Re: Should I Quit Crack Repair?
I used to do long crack repair, but I quit after I ran into to some previous long crack customers who had put in new glass after my repairs failed. I asked why they hadn't called and they said "Well, you did the work, so I didn't feel right asking for the money back."
They didn't tell me, but I bet they told some other people.

Glassstarz,
I have had much success with L/C repair. Most of the Fleet accounts I service have been very pleased with the results they are getting, not to mention the price and no down time. No worry of leaks or city parking and plantation sticker removal either.
The only problem, I do have to pass on more than I would like due to age, contamination ect.

Re: Should I Quit Crack Repair?
AGSS, I don't feel comfortable yet repairing cracks over 6 inches, due to my inexperience. That's why I won't attack them and by reading all the (bad)experiences the other members have had with long cracks, I think I'm making the wright decission , I will not overstrech myself yet.
In return for the long cracks I don't repair and sending to my buddy , I get chips and short cracks to repair he sends to me, this way w're rubbing each others back.
Chapeau for your abillity and experience.
