AGSS is right on the money. In our area if a client calls in a claim for a chip with a crack running out, they(network) will only pay you as if it was one. I have had quite a few of these. I explain to the customer they will have to pay the difference since it will not be covered. They are not happy about that and guess who is left standing in front of them to hear there disgruntled comments!!!!!

IMHO, they(Insurance Co. / Networks) should look at it as a three step process so to speak or three separte damages.

1. Original chip
2. Crack
3. Anchor created to stop crack

Personally, I always try to sell it straight cash and let the customer decide if it is really worth submitting a claim for such a small ammount. Then I am paid in full and they can get reimbursed if they want. Some pay cash and some want the insurance to pay. Either way we strive to make the customer happy.

There is one Ins. Co. that will pay $100 for a 2-6 inch crack (Concord Group).
Back to my original question.....Why DON'T most insurance companies pay for long crack repair? Anyone?

Dave,
Do you work with set fees for your repairwork or does it depend on the insurance company your costumer has his policy with, knowing Concord Group pays $100 for a 2-6 inch crack.
When I follow AGSS advise , I hand the costumer my invoice with my set charges , get paid in cash or by credit card !
After this , the client can send my signed off invoice to his insurance company for reimbursement.
I don't not get involved with the costumer insurance company, this way I receive money up front.

I have set retail fees and fleet or rental fees. I am signed on with SGT, Lynx and Harmon so if my customer wishes to put in a comp claim for the repair, I have contracted prices which I abide by. I bill on-line for SGT, Glass Comp for Lynx and receive electronic payments from SGC and Lynx (usually within two weeks).
I do not do long crack repairs, 6 inch maximum. Am I losing out on business? I don't see it that way. I busy enough without them!
Success rate would be my answer, also!

How about save your factory seal, The dangers of an improperly installed windshield and so on..

As a matter of fact I look at it as a better alteranative to replacement!

This is why i have come to specialize in L/C repairs. For those of you who don't know, I owned a few glass replacement shops, Over the years i have seen very, very bad installations. With the NEW technology that is comming integrated into windshields, I see repair as a must!

However that being said, I am glad to see that not many people do long cracks here.
Hi AGSS,

Sorry, obviously you don't understand the dynamics and different marketing between U.S. and 'Aust. OZ, or Down Under' which I usually emphasise in replies. As far as 'Factory Seal or Improperly Installed' I beg to differ (for those of you who don't know) we founded our business on 18 years exp. of fitting windscreens and stone chip repairs was an add on as far as market demand (which is also very successful). I have previously mentioned that in this market you must supply both replacement and repairs. We fit windscreens to locally repaired V8 Supercars - so if you are very, very bad at installing an "A1" seals you are right to have given this aspect of the trade away, or you were employing very, very bad fitters.

And having that being said, "I'm glad you have long crack repairs all to yourself!"
