I encountered this odd appearance on several dings I repaired for a freight company last week. The haziness didn't show until the fractures had been finished & cured--- it was noticeable in several bullseye AND star-type breaks.
I'm wondering that perhaps there is a product they use on their windshields with open breaks that causes this effect. It could've been my resin--- (I was near the end of a bottle) however, the effect was intermittent, and ONLY on this particular fleet.
It's unsightly--- and it's got both the foreman and myself scratching our heads.

Cooll the glass b4 you do repair and go slow with little pressure
Ask them about the company that washes their trucks and what type of washing chemicals they are using.
I ran into this a few years ago with one of my truck fleet accounts. They had changed wash vendors and all my repairs started looking like mush.
Turns out vendor was using some heavy-duty (non-legal) acid wash chemicals which not only affected my repairs but was also dulling the finish on all of these rigs.
I stated my case to them and shorty after they changed vendors. Problem solved! Repairs were back to standards.
Might not be your situation but worth the effort to check it out.
This is delamination, normally caused by the damage being left to long before repairing. Also excessive washes before repair will accelerate the effect. The greyness would have been there before you started the repair, only it would have been masked by the blackness due to air. The PVB before it is warmed up and placed between the 2 layers of glass during manufacturing has a cloudy look to it. When air and moisture over a long time get back to it it will return to its natural state. In other words grey, you will often see it arond the edges of some poor quality shield, where the glass and pvb are coming apart.

yes screenman what you say is true...but he said this happened on several trucks..I could go along with the age and air on 1 but on several I go along with Starquest and chemical
