Repairs in line of vision.
Repairs in line of vision.
Do any of you guys follow the rule of not doing any repairs that are within the direct field of vision of the driver. If you are referred the job by an ins. co. and it's right smack dab in front of the driver, do you do the repair?
Re: Repairs in line of vision.
I will repair unless the damage is really nasty. That said, I explain to the customer what to expect. I also let them know that if they aren't happy with the outcome there is no charge. I believe I have only had one of these that the customer wasn't happy with.
Re: Repairs in line of vision.
it's always a judgement call...yesterday I had an ins job and small bullseye was in line of vision of wife...husband no..they wanted repair because they didn't want to spend money for new window..it was a clean bullseye with tiny pit so repair came out great and they were happy..just a speck on the window..had that been a large daisy break i wouldn't have done it..
Re: Repairs in line of vision.
I repair chips, stars and bullseyes in the accute area , nasty or not .
Cracks are another story , I'll drill a hole 1/2 way in the first layer of the windshield , pop a bullseye to stop the crack from running and fill with resin ONLY when the owner has a recent inspection sticker. Here in Texas cars are inspected once a year. This way he still can drive his car for the remaining months until the next State Inspection is due .With a crack in the accute area S.I. will deny a new inspection sticker. The customer appriciates to be helped this way and is able to postpone to have a new windshield installed immediatly.

Wow, I never heard the state inspection once a year.. is it mandatory to have windshield inspection every year? what the reason for that? We don't have that here in Washington.
Re: Repairs in line of vision.
Not only the windshield is part of the inspection, exhaust emission for cars on gasoline is metered , diesels have an exception for this part ,brakes, springs ,tires, windshieldwipers, lights, horn , turnsignals and a few other items must be in good working condition to pass inspection befor a sticker is glued on the inside of the windshield, we drive around with 2 stickers on the left lower corner of the windshield, the other is for the annual road tax. Talking about burocracy and red tape ??
Re: Repairs in line of vision.
So when do you tell the customer they need a new windshield, when
it's laying on the dash?
it's laying on the dash?

I am surprised annual vehicle inspection is not compulsory throughout the USA
considering the states are known as litigationville. An accident which can be attributed to faulty system, e.g. headlights, would be easy meat for your lawyers.

Is a customer always right? - No, but they are always the customer.

Lee,
I have to admit..... you always shed another light on postings.
Personally, unless damage can repaired cosmetically in acute area at 98% or better, I'll choose to decline. One of the main reasons I chose to decline that repair, is a possible future legal situation... i.e., customer is involved in a serious crash and some crafty lawyer comes into play stating the glisten from repaired damaged caused the accident! Guess who's on line for this BS lawsuit? Not the network or insurance company......but you!
There's some damage that I will repair in this area with signed customer approval but it's most often a repair that I could live with driving my own vehicle daily.

Only when it's laying on the back seat and if so , I suggest to take the roof off to convert it into an open car. No more windshield or side windows , future problems solved .Lee;25280 wrote:So when do you tell the customer they need a new windshield, when
