Business Insurance Update
Business Insurance Update
This month I tried to find affordable liability insurance locally... I found out it is not possible until I read Brent's post about RLI. Local agents wanted 700-1000 for a $500,000 policy. RLI has given me a million dollar policy for $207 per year. What an awesome deal!!! Now RLI will sell direct without having to find a local insurance broker.

Re: Business Insurance Update
We've had many post about RLI and we all know they offer the cheapest rates available in repair services but as I asked before......has anyboby ever filed a claim against them? Never seen a response so far... so I suppose nobody has.
How can you seriously judge how good your repair insurance carrier is until they've worked out some previous filed claims? So far to me it's just printed required paper.

Re: Business Insurance Update
I will say, I have had them from the day I opened 17 years ago.
NO, I have not filed a claim, but doing work for the insuance net. and most of my fleet accounts asking for proof of certificate each year it is worth having the policy.
If I would ever mess up a car, which I do not plan on I will pay for out of my pocket just to kee the low rate price.
Again it is worth having the policy just to please the accounts so I can work them.
No insurance, no account.....

Re: Business Insurance Update
just hooked up with RLI the other day myself. Delta kits gave me the referral a couple weeks ago. I didn't think to much of it until I got some astronomical quotes locally. under $200 for the year with rli for $500K coverage. it has an addendum for your tools too if they get swiped. this policy is for a home based business only though. if you've got a shop the policy I got wouldn't work.
by the way. as far as I know this is liability insurance. in other words it doesn't cover you for doing damage to the car your working on. I believe (and I'm not an insurance agent, so don't shoot the messenger) the policy that would pay for a winshield you make worse, or the dent you put in a customer's car when moving it, is called a Garage Keepers policy.

Luckily I have not had to file a claim to date so I do not know how smooth an actual cliam process would go. With that said, insurance companies are rated on many different areas and at the time I got my policy RLI was AAA+ rated which I believe is the highest. Hopefully that translates into smooth claims processes should the need ever araise.

Hack Job Bob,
Not shooting the messenger but you should check with your ins. agent regarding Garage Keepers. I'm 99.9% sure that if you crack out the windshield while doing the repair, you are not insured for that! Garage Keepers only covers the customer vehicle while in your care and custody for body damage.

Re: Business Insurance Update
Will do Dave. I haven't moved forward with any coverage aside from the liability through RLI.
Is anyone aware of a policy that does cover further damage to the glass by a technician? I am assuming most customers carry comprehensive, but I don't like assuming things that can cost me money. If there is a way to cover my ___ I would like to do a little research on it. thanks.
