I have seen this product but i dont know if its on the market yet
Its a thick window film that covers the whole windshield . It repels water and helps to prevent stone chips and must be replaced once a year. If a rock hits it the film will take the impact and prevent damage to the ws. The product i saw was made from Madico Films.

Have repaired 3 vehicles that had the windshields treated. To be honest the windshields were damaged just like any other windshield. All three had surface nicks that we all see on most windshields that we do work on.

new2thebiz,

You asked a question and received responses, nobody ever mentioned a spray on treatment. They stated Madico films offered a clear plastic coating for the windshield. Today, I can honestly say no windshield treatment or film can prevent all windshield damage from happening.

Aren't we in the wsr business? Why would wsr techs. want to sell a product that is supposed to help prevent damage?

I second this statement. We have lots of people here claiming to have products that protect windshields ... haven't come across one that truly prevents stone chips .... I've even repaired bullet proof (security type) windshield .. they still chip ...

I mentined a spray treatment because thats what i heard how it was applied. im not trying to sell anything or stir up any ad time, my name is new2thebiz for a reason, im trying to get as much informaion as possble for myself to make me a beter tech.
im just saying what heard from a customer and decided to look into it,

new2thebiz,

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you in anyway and no I wasn't looking to hush you up. This is a free forum and I do respect your freedom of speech. I guess what bugged me is when 3 or more techs already responded by saying windshield coatings don't prevent rock damage and then you asked if it's a spray on. (who really cares?) Truth is none of these treatments or coatings can prevent damage from harder hits. Can they add protection from those little pebble nicks? Yes, some of them can but do we really care about those little nicks that we aren't suppose to charge for in the first place?

A close friend of mine and shop manager for a tinting business just recently challenged me that his Madico applied windshield film treatment would prevent all chip damage. That's how he's selling it to customers and not for $50 but at $95 per shield. Guess who won that challenge? Me and $25! I popped off three bulleyes out of 5 thrown BB's and 3 stars using 4 penny sized sharp edged stones. Needless to say, my arm is a little sore but I did manage to prove my point.

Don't worry guy's, your not going to see windshield repair damage decline anytime soon. Maybe one of these days if or when they develope an Acrylic type windshield then we might become concerned or simply move from chip repair to full blown polishing!

I currently service a BMW dealership for headlight restoration, I know that for the past year they were using Diamond Fusion and charging the customer at least 500.00 just for the front windshield, recently they stopped offering that service due to a lawsuit claiming that it prevents rock chips. I am also familiar with Nanotec-USA and that works just as it claims.
