What's in a logo?
What attracts customers? Obviously the quality of a product does, but visual images contribute a great deal. It is not only the image provided by the packaging that counts but the whole corporate identity of the company.

There are now many products and services on the market which are similar in content though produced by different companies. It is vital, therefore, for a company to distinguish itself from its competitors by having a strong company image which is immediately recognisable.

Logos are part of this image. They are symbols which often include a name or initials to identify a company. The logo establishes a visual identity for the company, just as different groups of young people express their identity through hairstyles and clothes. All groups from all cultures and throughout the ages have used colours and symbols to show their identity.

In different cultures, different colours carry different meanings. Some colours may be connected with coldness in one culture and with warmth in another; some colours represent life in one culture but death in another. International companies have, therefore, to make sure sure that their logos will not be misunderstood or misinterpreted in different countries.

The logos of large international companies are instantly recognisable throughout the world. One of the most famous logos is that of Coca Cola. The design of the words "Coca Cola" has not changed since 1886, although the surrounding design has been changed from time to time.

Many companies have, over the years, renewed their logos to fit in with contemporary design and to present more powerful images. Company logos can be emotive and can inspire loyalty by influencing the subconscious. Some logos incorporate an idea of the product; the steering wheel in the Mercedes logo, for example, and the aeroplane tail of Alitalia.

Logos are used on letterheads, packaging and brochures as well as on the product itself. They may also appear in newspapers or on television as part of an advertising campaign.

Companies need to have a strong corporate identity. The logo helps to promote this image and to fix it in the minds of the consumers. Logos, therefore, need to be original and to have impact and style.

Please remember that e-mail addresses and promotional URL's are not allowed on this forum. I have allowed a couple of URL's in this thread to remain as they are clearly not promotional, and relate directly to the topic at hand, but will have to remove them is I receive any complaints.

Photo's need to be approved, so please private message or e-mail me with any picture files you intend to upload. They should be in bmp, gif, jpe, jpeg, jpd, pdf, png, psd, or txt formats only.

Thanks.

I believe in the use of a Logo.. Mine is a duck, simply a duck coming out of a cracked shell. With a: "We fix quacks" under it.. It may seem to some as a waste, but kids see it and point it out to their moms, moms see it and point it out to the kids, dads see it and (lol) you can tell they don't get it right away.. Point being, its a seed.. If my truck is seen or my biz cards are seen by 1000 people a day, that is a 1000 seeds sown/planted.. All I have to do is wait for them to sprout.. And its not uncommon when people call to hear "are you the duck man"?

SGT I have customers tell me several times a week that they choose me from the list because of my name Nu-View they seem to like that :) So I think name is very very important and I guess a logo could be also if you made it visible all the time.

Mine is two windshields with a chip in the first and the chip cracked out in the second. Above the first is "Don't let this" and above the second is "Turn into this". This seems to work well, at least for some people as they point to the first one and say, "I've got one like that". It seems to work well with truckers too. I like the duck idea too. Throwing a little humor in makes your card or sign that much more memorable.

I think having a logo, though not a necessity, would greatly help your business APPEAR more professional. Some people could care less and many do.

When I search for a service, say in the phone book, you'll see several different companies offering the same service. How do you choose? Perhaps the overall appearance of the ad to include: image, content, brand recognition, and many other things. Whenever I see joe smuck put a flyer on my car that looks like he made it at home, I probably wont call him and throw his flyer away.

As I never spend anything on advertising my windshield repair business I feel the need for a logo is not there, however again I say whatever works for you.
I always look clean and proffesional, always in uniform, smart and clean well sign written car etc. I do not like magnetic signs as I think it sends out the wrong message, such as I am only messing with this business and not fully committed enough to get my vehicle properly signed. I know this opinion will upset a few on here and I apolgise now.

Commerce, TX is called the "Bois d'Arc Capital of Texas." Bois d'Arc is the name of a tree used by Indians to make bows. Since my business name is Bois d'Arc Mobile Windshield Clinic, I have a picture of a tree on my business cards, letterhead, shirts and caps.

A logo is important when you market.

A logo is great on your paper work. Other wise its nothing but a nice thing to look at.

Now think about it. The guy that jump starts your van. He hands you a hand written bill for 45 bucks. No logo. DOSE IT MATTER? Not at all.

LOGOs matter if you are using print advertisment or vision advertising like TV.

I WOULD NOT SPEND BIG MONEY on it. Bad in the day having a design logo made was THOUSANDS of bucks. Now with the computers its as easy as 1 hour of your time.

No need to copy write it as most are jokes. I could Use Wal Marts logo right now and no one would go anything. Copy write is a joke.
