Crack Going Under The Molding

Been doing w/s repair a while but recently I've had a few calls for cracks that end under the molding. I usually pass on these because I know I can't cure the end of the crack due to it being hidden. I do have a lifetime guarantee on all of my repairs so this is a concern. I remember a while ago screenman mentioned what he called a "cleat" (I believe) at the edge. What kind of success rate do you guys have on this type of repair?????

Cracks that run to the edge shouldnt be fixed IMHO huge failure percentage and not safe if you believe the mfgs. Im sure some will argue but I have my standards they have thiers
As far as the molding question if you put your light on the glass and leave it there you would cure glass being clear it will let the light into it and since the uv layer isnt involved it should work? remember the light on the end of the glass rod thing in HS Science class? thats how the fiber optics works give it a try
I tend to pass on cracks over 6 inches myself

GlassStarz, Wait a minute. Judging by your profile you and me are the same age. I don't think they even knew about fiber optics back then. But you are probably right. Also as I said I pass on those cracks too. Just thought I would throw that out there. I also pass on the long cracks . The state inspectors out here in Jersey don't get it yet that some cracks can be repaired. Chips are ok but they frown on crack repairs.

Long cracks are always a judgement call. 1st question for the customer is -When did it happen?
If you have a lifetime warranty, explain to the customer that the warranty doesn't apply and why and then if they still want the repair, do it if you have time.
Ask yourself- Which is safer-the unrepaired crack or the repaired crack?

I am also with Splitpit and screenman on this one. I will only work on crack that are no longer then 12 inches, and not older then a few days. It's just to difficult and time consuming to work on anything longer. In windshield repair you just have to find what is comfortable for you. Many people make great money and never repair one crack.

LIke Daveycrewcut said it is a judgement call... First Q is how long has it been there. and were it is located. The ones on the bottom I would think twice about. Dirt flows down to the bottom of the break and settles there. I have no problem with the ones on the sides...but time is the first thing I look at..

I was just wondering how many of you still offer a warranty for long cracks and how many say that it doesn't apply. I know all situations are different and must be handled accordingly but just wanted to get an estimate.
