HELP getting work!!
HELP getting work!!
I havent posted in about 4 months even though I'm on here everyday. I attended Delta's training in sept which rose my confident level greatly. I have been out doing a few jobs on my days off from the fire station weekly. I have great confindince in my quaility of work. The problem is that the jobs that I'm doing are people that I know and the referals that I get from them. It only totals about 2-3 jobs a week. The job trail has ran dry and the wife wants to see more productivly. My secduele with the fire station is 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off which give me 3 days durring the week, some times 4 days a week to do repairs. With my time off I should be able to do very well with this business but have trouble going out and talking to people. Don't take it as I'm not a talkative person. I can talk to anyone on the street. Very outgoing can carry a conversation about anything but when it come to talking about windshields its like my brain cannot function. I think that I'm so worried about rejection that I can't process what I what to say. The hardest part about this job is selling. I have read just about every post on this subject and was wondering if any of you had any other input that could help my brain farts. Any input on this matter would be greatful.

Re: HELP getting work!!
You sound Normal to me.
Try not to think about rejection, Every sales person in the world has to deal with rejection, at least you are not selling cars where they may only get 1 sales from every possible 10 they talk with, you are selling a service, you are doing them a favor by saving them money while putting a little in your pocket, (not a bad thing) reverse the scenario, would you appreciate someone saving your windshield?
The customer has two other options, leave the break till it cracks or pick another repair person, so WSR with you isn't a bad choice for them.
Think positive thoughts, try to wear the friendly fireman's hat while carrying your kit, There will be some people who say No but that's OK its their choice, Id say most would say yes please fix it for me, but still today some people are ignorant.
Maybe you could focus on the safety aspect of your biz seeing as you are a fireman, always better to fix than replace...
Always carry Biz cards and pass them out to people who dont have rock chips, if they like and trust you they will call you.
Building a biz takes Time.
Good Luck.

Re: HELP getting work!!
What really helped me get more motivated and confident with selling windshield repair is reading some sales books. After reading Zig Ziglars secrets of closing the sale I was so excited to try some of the things I had learned. Also the more you speak with people about windshield repair the more your confidence level will rise.
Re: HELP getting work!!
Just keep in mind that even the best sales people in the world get rejected daily.
Starting out in repair expect to see rejection often and get use to it! If you can get just one account of nine visited....it won't be long before you have more work than you can handle.

"and the wife wants to see more productivity"???? Sales skills might not be your "only" problem.........JMO
Re: HELP getting work!!
I was just going to hit on that line about the wife.... Maybe she can or should be the sales person so she can see what it is like also... She most likley is the one spending the money as it comes in anyway.
I put my wife out there to get the feel of it. She did not like the sales end that much... I do not get any lip out of her now. OH, that sounds bad now. I sound like a hard #$% now. Yes Dear. I will get right on it.......:eusa_doh:
It just helps so they know what we are trying to do for them....

Im addition to passing out business cards. Try to get their number (for the contacts who "don't have time right now") so you can call them at a later time and make an appointment with them.
Also, When you approach people "look" professional. Have some shirts with your company name on it. If you went thru Delta's factory training and passed, put the patch on your jacket.. This will add credibility because the customer will see you are certified and trained, not just some hack off the street.
Re: HELP getting work!!
Now would be a great time to contact past prospects that didn't let you repair at first contact...that is...if you got numbers for the people who wouldn't let you repair at the time. Same goes for dealership and fleet accounts if you have contacted any.
You may want to call old customers and ask how their repair looks and ask for referrals. Maybe offer them an incentive...free gift card somewhere, next chip half off, something to get them to think of their friends.
I've always tried to use slower time as a way to refine my selling techniques, no matter what business I am in. I read sales books and marketing books and motivational books all day long. I love them and they motivate and inspire me to be better and to try new methods. Go to your bookstore and purchase a book on sales. Spend the slow time using the methods you use there and see what works. Try to be creative. Remember about rejection...if they say NO, who cares? Most likely you aren't going to see them again. We walk through stores and malls all the time and say no to people, we don't think twice about it. Usually the person that you said no to didn't take it personally either. Don't take it personal. If everyone said yes we would all be rich.
Wake up early, read 20 minutes from a good motivational book or sales book and get ready for the day. You will be much more productive if you do so because you will be excited to learn new ways to sell and make money. Set goals on how many people you want to contact per day, how many repairs to do, how many referrals, how many phone numbers etc, then go out and hit the goals you set for yourself. It will become habit if you try and do it everyday for a few weeks, and it will change the way you sell.

Re: HELP getting work!!
Wow! Well put Proview, While I don't use outside motivation, I may change my attitude after this. Maybe I have been selling to long? I do agree that I get much more motivated when I am down after reading those types of materials. I have a few but I don't use them as I should!! When I was new at sales I had alot of depression due to lack of sales! People read you and a depressed sales person has a rotten outcome for sure! That being said, WSR is an easy sell due to the facts, reduced cost to the customer, warrantee!!, time needed to return the vehicle to service, etc, etc.ProView WR;27778 wrote:Now would be a great time to contact past prospects that didn't let you repair at first contact...that is...if you got numbers for the people who wouldn't let you repair at the time. I had a lot of issues with motivation when I was new to business back in 82. I have a changed way of thinking today, that comes from a large amount of time in the field. Truth is I still need outside motivation at times so I appreciate your post! I hope others pay attention also. It's been a long haul to this place, (at times) especially from thanksgiving till tax time. When everyone has "other things" on their minds. This is when I need it!! Heh, Oh and happy holidays everyone. Maybe it's time for THAT post? :eusa_clap Thx, Scott
My best mentor one said " be fair with your priceing but never too low, be honest with your customer/competition, when the day is done be sure you have done "good works", and always leave something of value on the barganing table!!

Re: HELP getting work!!
It is natural to reject rejection (hope that made sense), it is human nature. Steping outside of ones comfort zone is one way to create new boundries and in no time selling will be part of your new comfort zone and you will have to set new boundries for something else you may fear.
NO DOES NOT MEAN NO IN ALL CASES, IT MAY JUST MEAN, NOT RIGHT NOW!
Good luck to you.
