Hello all- I went to do a job today and the guy said he heard to put super glue in the bulls eye (about golf ball size) and it would not run or go anywhere. Are these types of fixes repairable? It looked to me like it trapped alot of air in the pockets that are usually black. I didn't do the job today cause I was unsure of what would happen or if it would even help. Any one come across this? Thanks, Karen

Hey Karen,
If the superglue soaked in and blocked any of the passages the chip is pretty much ruined as far as I am concerned. I would stay away from it.

Hey Coister- Yea- the super glue went every where in the damaged area!! Thanks for the advice! That was my first thought but almost did it (with their approval) to see what happened. Glad I didn't. Thanks again, Karen

Hi, Karen. Coitster is on target and so is sydfloyd. It's a goner.
The mistakes the potential customer made were four-fold.
A) He listened to "hearsay" and as all lawyers know that in itself is grounds for objection.
B) He should have superglued a golf ball into the "golfball -sized damage".
C) He then should have sued the goofball who told him to super-glue the golf-ball.
D) He then should have changed jobs and went to work for a network.
Seriously though, Karen. I've encountered that same situation more times than I can relate. I don't know who started that so-called remedy or the amount of people that ask me about eight dollar repair kits sold at the local hardware store.
As a rule of thumb, anytime something other than w/s resin is properly injected into an unmolested repair site, the chances of an effective repair are decreased notwithstanding the advice of those who perpetuate the myth of urban legends.
More importantly, re-repairing a lousy repair doesn't necessarily release the original incompetent from liability but it sure places you in the forefront of any potential lawsuit.
I've seen some of your past posts and they are all interesting.
Some time in the future and not now, you might consider qualifying the prospect before traveling to their location. I ALWAYS ask them to describe the extent and the size of the damage while on the phone.
And, I ALWAYS ask them if they've had repairs before and explain to them the repair will NOT become invisible and depending on the type of damage MAY look 85 or 90% better.
With few exceptions over the past 16 years, I have received notihng less than compliments.
And, I'll tell you something else. I don't bother to clean the windshield before I show them the results. It makes it that much harder for them to nit-pick or see where the repair was.
Only then do I point it out if they can't find it.
And, only then do I clean the windshield.
And, only then do I clean the windshield if they are nice people amd the inside of the car doesn't look like the parking lot of a cheap, fast-food drive-in at closing time.

The things people do to their windshields before they call us ... I bet we could write a best-selling book!
I have responded to repair calls only to discover:
1. the ubiquitous super glue ... sorry, nothing can be done
2. nail polish ... sorry, nothing can be done. One time the laugh I got was worth the trip ... he had put the nail polish on the INSIDE of the windshield! (I was able to fix that one)
3. vasaline <--- can you believe it? That was the most recent one ... I said I could attempt the repair, but that there was no way it would be guaranteed, because of the contamination.
Where do these folks park their brains? These people are not stupid... in fact, most of them are probably far better educated than I. I expect to see play-dough stuck to the glass someday.... hey, there's a thought... we could start a rumor ... then watch the play dough stock go up LOL!

My wife and I have always had our own vehicles. Normally, the only time I ever drive her vehicle is (naturally) when it needs gas
Well, I remember driving her last car (a Volvo) to get gas and noticed a rather pronounced knocking sound eminating from the engine compartment.
Upon my return home, I asked the wife if and when she had noticed the sound. Her response ..... "I noticed it a few months ago, but if you turn the volume on the stereo up, it goes away!!!!"
Needless to say, the Volvo was soon traded in on my new Dodge Dually!!!
