With the glass being a side glass, the interlayer may not be as thick as a windscreen and so I would avoid pressing onto the glass too hard, also, if you intend to use a drill, the overall glass thickness will probably be approx. 60%-70% of a normal car front screen so be very careful.

It's likely that laminated glass is used on the side to provide extra support for side airbags when they deploy. If so, repairs would restore the strength to the side glass the same as front windshields.

I'm not sure I would want laminated glass on my driver side window if I didn't have a way to manually roll down the window in case I end up in a lake!

I have repaired many side windows. High end cars and trucks and coming this way now. I wondered the same thing myself about escaping after a vehicle crash if the door was pinned shut or under water. I hope to never find out though! The good news for us is that these side windows are EXPENSIVE to replace making repair even more critical than for the W/S in relation to cost. I have heard $400 minimum for a driver side glass on a Dodge Ram.

I had a 57 plymouth that had laminated side glass.I heard that it is making a come back and any pdr guys out there must remember to check for laminated side glass when doing door dents as you cannot stick your window protector down the door and pry off this glass as you can with tempered glass.

I would be very surprised to see Laminated glass being used more and more for side glasses, unless it is related to the deployment of airbags in or around the door area. The risk of accidental breakage is much higher than toughened, because of the constant jarring on the glass, opening and closing the door plus the additional cost of manufacture since I assume the glasses will be housed in some form of encapsulation or metal frame. Double glazed units are being fitted to top of the range cars such as Mercedes

VERY,VERY COOL Screenman! The more laminated glass the BETTER our business is going to be! Those side windows are going to be expensive especially with heating elements and other features!

I note the glass has to be "semi-toughened" to withstand the jarring and improve scratch resistance, does this have any effect on the repair process? The interlayer thickness is the same as the front screen
