Starting Over....
Starting Over....
I got into windshield repair back in 1994. I did it part time, then full time and then I got stupid and gave it up. The short of it is I'm going back into it full time do to an injury. My question is what are most guys doing as far as auto dealers, fleet work, to insurance work goes, percentage wise. My biggest complaint when I was doing it before was that car dealers try to snake you every which way. Does anyone have any suggestions to throw my way? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.
Re: Starting Over....
Dont worry the business will look quite the same with the "snakey" dealers lol

I can't speak for everyone, but feel that most of those 98 who viewed the post thought that this topic has been covered thoroughly many times before. I would recommend reading through all the previous threads. There is a wealth of information contained within this forum, you just need to set aside some time(possibly alot) to read through the previous topics.

My experience to date has not been what you describe so I cannot provide any valuble insight.
In general, be honest, be reliable, be competitive and do quality work. Other than that you are dealing with human personalities and it is out of your control and thats just business.

Use the search feature to save time finding things on the windshield repair forum. Sometimes I find the search button on the Delta Kits home page works better, although it will also bring up relevant items on the Delta Kits site. The search feature on the windshield repair forum site probably works just as well, but as the search feature on the Delta Kits website is Google powered so it is more familiar to most people.zachb;29375 wrote:I can't speak for everyone, but feel that most of those 98 who viewed the post thought that this topic has been covered thoroughly many times before. Re: Starting Over....
I was never big on auto dealers. I serviced what I considered the cream of the crop, but let the bottom feeders have the rest. I did roughly 40% fleet work, 40% insurance, and 14% cash. The other 1% was auto dealerships, but for the most part they came to me, not the other way around.anttracker;29366 wrote:I got into windshield repair back in 1994. I know some windshield repair technicians do very well at the dealerships, but it was just not my cup of tea.

In my area of michigan there is someone doing all the big dealers for 15 years they do not want anything to do with a new guy. I tried they aren't interested LOL also you have to do them super cheap at the really small lots and they only let you do very few of the 12 or more they need done

Jeff,
I got the impression from some of your posts that you may be able to use the work. Depending on how tight the belt is, you may consider for these smaller lots using them as you need. Give them a bulk rate to get them to bite if they have volume. Sometimes you have to do what is needed to stay a float. I appologize if I have the wrong impression.
