Reply from windscreen company.

Post by screenman »

Here is a reply I got when I posted a comment about a windscreen replacement company that pretends to do repairs in UK.

me think m8 u dont no rac autowindscreens very well we would always try a repair if its possible but for obvious reasons wont reccomend it if the chips outsidr our guidelines! also the uv lamp is awsome if your in the dark it give u much better sight of the chip! also if your as good as you think u r then u will no that chips sometimes crack upon trying to repair them and u also said like dried raindrop!!??? WHAT?? does that not depend on how long the chips been their, how much moisture and oxygen is in the glass and on the size of the chip?? also havin been doing this for 5 years i no that u can repair a chip and sometimes it looks no different to what it looked when you first started! and dont forget the repair are garenteed not to spread if they reduce in size then its an added bonus!! all at autowindscreens no about repair and work along side a recognised british standard!!

Sounds like a quality repair shop NOT!:eusa_wall It just sucks that we have to re-educate the customers of places like that.

This was from an employee of the second largest replacement company in the UK and I was posting on their parents company forum.

I was on there website but did not see the forum. It appears that they would be the equivelent to our Belron/Safelite pairing.

It is unfortunate that sometimes the quality of the people doing the work is also reflected in the work or that there true motives may not always be what is best for the customer. I also think that this happens with the smaller independants as well though.

Honestly, I am more concerned with another independant trying to aquire my accounts. Other than the occassional steering, I do not see Safelite or other as a direct threat to those of us who pound the pavement looking for work. At least not yet!

I just want to try to control what I can at my level but I do see a need for industry changes.

Having been in the automotive glazing business for some years now, that reply, that Screenman received, does not surprise me. I recall one occasion when I was fitting a glass sunroof to a car, I asked the young lad, who was on a work experience scheme with the company I worked for, to get me the new sunroof panel from the stores which were on the office roof, just at that moment I took a customer call in the office. When I came back into the workshop I couldn't find the lad anywhere. Then I heard footsteps coming from above me. I ran outside to find the lad had gone onto the roof of the building and was trying to undo the skylight!!!!!
Is a customer always right? - No, but they are always the customer.
