When you say lube, are you using water or Bens yellow 50/50?
Wow Ben, you have become famous. Maybe you should start selling your recipe online and you can just sit home and count your money... those car lots are starting to get hot.
You are not just sanding to remove damage using a petro based lube you are forcing a small amount into the dried out plastic as well if you use water you miss this benifit. also softens the surface a little helping the top coat bond.
I started with the Headlight Doctor kit and slowly replaced thier chemicals
I now use WD ist step Mineral spirit based thinner second step and a 50/50 mix of helmans outdoor and mineral sprits. It goes easy looks great and is a heck of alot cheaper than the original system and i like the looks of the final coat better use the blue scott towel instead of a brush and get a even coat without streaks and ridges

I had no idea you were talking about WD-40!! I thought you were talking about windex (WD). I also never thought about WD-40 as a lube. Doesn't it leave an oily residue?
I use the liquid WD it comes in a gallon can about 11 bucks when i ran out of the first step on my previos system I called to rush order and was told buy the mfg to use WD until his stuff showed Liked the Wd better never went back the oily coat isnt a problem because the second step is wiping it down with thinner one or two quick wipes I have been using this way for awhile just hadnt tried a different top coat the stuff I had been using was $80 for 8 ounces looked and smelled like urethane took it to the paint shop he stuck it in some testing machine and said Marine Urethane i didnt like the thick ridges it left so when BIG BEN mentioned cutting it 50/50 I tried it. works great and no ridges and a quart costs about 15 buck then cut it with the thinner and all the sudden that kit I was buying for $180 that did abou 30 sets is gone from my box now it costs me $40 to do a couple hundred sets
