Try to understand the insurance billing process.

Post by GWutah »

Hey everybody. I am starting in this business and I am having a hard time understanding the insurance billing process. I called a few companies to ask about the best software to create invoices and bill the companies but they give me lots of different informations. Here are some of my questions.

1- What is the best software to create invoices? Which company should I contact?
2-Do I need a fax machine to send a copy of the invoice with the customer signature to the Insurance companiy?
3-Do i need to have a NAGs license?
4-Can i do it without a computer?

Any help is more than welcome.
Thanks.

Most insurance companies do not handle their own auto glass claims. They use 3rd party administrators like Lynx, SGC, Harmon, Quest to name a few. You need EDI software to do your own invoicing but some allow you to fax or submit invoices over the internet. If you fax or mail them, there is usually a manual processing fee. Our Autoglass Claims Team, Inc (A.C.T.) will help you get enrolled with all the networks and submit your invoices for a lesser fee than faxing or mailing direct. We will also, for a flat $12.95 fee provide full service, meaning you will have only one toll free # to call no matter what the insurance company is and then you will be on the phone for only 15-30 seconds, then we will have you put your customer on the line so you can go back to work and we will conference in your customer with the correct claims center for whoever they have insurance with. After verifying coverage and getting authorization, we will submit your invoice for you via EDI. We also have a 3 day pay plan where you don't have to wait 2-4 weeks for payment.
We will pay you on Tuesday or Friday whichever comes first. You can reach A.C.T. at {removed by moderator} and Delta has applications.

Sorry for the edit Dave, but rules are rules and we don't allow telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, or self promotional URLs in posts, and I'm afraid that includes fax numbers.

In the future please ask other forum members to private message you for more information.

GW does not have quite enough posts to send or receive private messages yet, but will have soon.

In the mean time it's not hard to find A.C.T. on the Internet if GW or anyone else wants to get your contact info, or forum members can contact me and I will supply that info.

You know far more about the benefits and the options that A.C.T. offers and insurance billing in general, so I hope you will continue to provide information for those unfamiliar with the services A.C.T. provides. I think many windshield repair technicians are still unclear about the various pricing options offered by A.C.T., and the various different levels of service available.

I've invited several insurance billing service providers to answer questions here, but so far you are one of the few, if not the only one who has taken me up on it.

Thanks for your cooperation.

GWutah,

1. none.
2. no.
3. no.
4. yes but would be difficult. a basic computer is very inexpensive right now.

IMO A.C.T or other similar software is not needed to run a windshield repair business. don't get me wrong, I think ACT provides a great service for business that don't want to take the time to do their own invoicing, however doing it yourself is very easy. I have a day job and am still able to do my own invoicing with no problem. If you want me to elaborate on this you can call me. my company name is garza glass repair. look up my website on google and it has my phone# on there.

1. I don't use computerized invoices. I have mine printed by a local print shop in 2-parts. Since most of my business is mobile, I find paper invoices more convienient.
2. You'll need a FAX to send invoices to an EDI provider (if you use paper) and to an insurance company if you deal with them directly (no 3rd party). Some 3rd party networks like Safelite allow you to submit invoices on-line.
3. No
4. I use an e-FAX service so all dispatches come in the form of an e-mail. This is handy if you have a computer (and internet service) in your car/truck. It also negates the need for a separate FAX phone line at the office.
