UV dome
UV dome
I was thinking of purchasing a Bubble dome but want to get a feel for their limitations first. Anybody got feedback on how they do with repairs close to edge of WS or on a vertical one like an RV? Are they easy to maneuver and carry? Do they scratch easily? Ever hit your nose on it trying to see while flexing a leg. Etc.
Re: UV dome
I think they're definitely worth it for what I deal with, rain through-out the winter. For UV protection should be worth it too. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to maneuver underneath, but not that bad. If a repair was right in an upper corner, you could still get it mounted on the roof above the windshield and for lower corners I still think there would be room to mount. There may be exceptions though. And not sure about vertical RV's.
Re: UV dome
I just received mine 2 days ago. So far I like it. It is a bit bulky, the plastic appears to be thin but I have to say THE THING WORKS WELL! It might scratch easy being thin. I havent had a chance to try it on a vertical WS yet but the suction cups do work well.CrackMagic;31409 wrote:I was thinking of purchasing a Bubble dome but want to get a feel for their limitations first. I also have a little but of an italian nose so....Yes my snoz will hit the lid if I try and get close while flexing a leg :eusa_doh:
All in all I like the dome and would recommend it. It does come in handy and does work.

Hey Guelster. My nose is on the "large" size too. So dont feel like the lone ranger.Guelster;31419 wrote:I just received mine 2 days ago. So far I like it. Re: UV dome
Over time mine has become a little scratched but it is still alot easier to see through than a yellow uv shield. Although it is expensive to ship I still recommend it. A couple days I have forgotten my bubble and really wished I had it with me.
Re: UV dome
It doesn't seem to by itself. When working on really hot days I carry a towel as the seal on the bubble will hold a towel draped over the bubble pretty well. Keeps the shade off and allows me room to perform the repair.

Re: UV dome
Most scratches will polish out with pit polish. I would say at the price if they only work half the time they are worth the small investment.

I just got mine and I think it's well worth it. Better than working under that flimsy yellow shield.
I got mine on sale. Brent might want to price-match and make a few sales here.

Re: UV dome
I used to use a dome back in the early '90's. It's great to have for unexpected showers. Back then we were told the UV protection would "wear out" after as little as a year or two if in the sun a lot. Brent, has this gotten any better? .....or was it even true?
