I "used" to have hobbies: guitar, was on worship teams for 20 years, played in one band for 7 yrs. and used to like to do drama. Was in the ministry for years also. Don't mean to be gory, but my youngest son was murdered 5 yrs ago and it changed everything. I haven't been able to do any of those things since, not much anyway. I've got 2 guitars just collecting dust now. I don't carry depression around daily, at least not consciously. It's just hard to get back enjoying life again.

Wow, that certainly puts things into perspective. I cannot imagine anything worse than losing a child. Unfortunately I know several people who have had to deal with the loss of a child, and even if the child was an adult, it changes everything for the parents.

My daughter is a worship team leader, and also a guitar player. I have often seen her sitting by herself playing music for the Lord when she gets in a funk. It's the one thing that does seem to bring her some peace. I've often wished I had a talent and conviction like that. It's sad to hear that you don't get any pleasure from it anymore.

I hope and pray that you will someday be able to find some peace in the things you once loved to do, and that God's plan for the rest of your life will be revealed to you so you can begin to enjoy life again.

Sorry, I don't mean to be preachy as I cannot possibly understand what your are going through, but my heart really does go out to you so I hope you won't mind if I add you and your family to my prayer list.

Brent, thank you for your sincere compassion. I hesitated responding to this thread. But then I thought if I did respond with honesty, there might be a few believers who would pray for me. Thanks again!

GlassStarz, so sorry to hear your loss. We are members of a club I wouldn't want to wish on anybody.

GlassStarz,

I was gone for a few days and did not see your post . I'm very sorry for your loss as well, and have already added you to my prayer list. I thought about Jay's post a lot over the weekend, and I think just reading it, and your's as well, will help me be a better person. Although I try not to, I'm often quick to judge people and sometimes forget that there is always much more to a person than meets the eye, which is why it is not for me to judge others.

My guess is there is a great deal of sympathy from your fellow windshield repair forum members for both of you, but it's very hard to know what to say to someone who has suffered more than most of us can imagine. Speaking only for myself, when I hear things like this I realize just trivial my problems are, and start counting my Blessings.

You on the other hand, are one of the few people that really can understand how Jay feels, and vise versa. Thanks for sharing.

Having two wonderful daughters I can not imagine the pain that a loss like that would cause. It really puts in perspective how much we tend to worry about "petty" things until a real problem/loss is brought to our attention. My heart go's out to both of you guys too..............

About 3 years ago I took a whitewater kayaking class while I was a student at Oregon State University. I have been addicted ever since. I always enjoyed rafting, but there is just something about right on the water where you truly are IN the rapids. Often, as you are entering a rapid, you look ahead and all you can see is whitewater because the waves are taller than you are in the kayak. It is a huge rush (at least for me). I also am dirt bike rider, golfer, hunter, fisherman, basketball/baseball/football player, and camper. Pretty much anything outdoors. I really want to get a street bike, but can't afford it at this time. I also help out with the youth group at my church and am in charge of our Men's Ministry.

Currently a whitewater kayaker myself. Just picked up a Jackson Fun last year. Might actually get the loop down this summer.
Formerly was a dirt biker (had an old mid-80's Honda CR 250). Couldn't deal with the maintenance costs, as I am not the most skilled engine tuner myself. Fixing stuff on the trail was fine, but anything serious and I was out of commission...

Dream is to own a GSX-R 750 some day...

I ski A LOT in the winters.

Durango has whitewater through town, and slopes about a 25 min. drive away. I live in the right place...
