Getting referrals

Has anyone had ever tried getting referrals from service departments, for example if a customer is in having their car serviced and a rock chip is noted on the screen (the garage would know that a referral fee is available for a couple of phone calls) a phone call to the customer is made and told that a free repair could be carried whilst in for a service, on pay out from the insurance company you then pass a referral fee onto the service department that referred the job to you. Has anybody tried this and did it work ?

We have an agreements with local MIDAS shops, independant garages and through the service depts at our dealerships. The agreement varies from we give them a referral fee to they pay us and resell the work to we keep it all. I do not complicate things for the service managers by the whole insurance process. They need it SIMPLE. So they either sell the job cash or referr it to us to handle and we always try for cash jobs.

It does work but it is not the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. This coupled with other avenues of income when combined will lead to that pot of gold.

Do you actually have them sign a contract? I have been thinking of doing this same thing for a while but just never got around to it.

Not a contract...An agreement. It is less intimidating. I have a professional agreement, the very one I use in my marketing tools package should you be interested.
