slow when dry

Post by bill lambeth »

I was wondering do you guys find that it seems to get a little slow when you dont get much rain?I think that not many rocks are getting washed out onto the roads. Also,my freight companies have slowed their trucks down (trying to conserve fuel)and we are not getting near as many chips.I would like some input on this from you guys.

That's interesting. I always found that the hotter the month the busier I was. For the most part the supply side of the business is the same way, and places like Vegas and Phoenix always seem to have a lot of work.

Here it rains for several months of the year, and things slow down for most windshield repair techs in the area during the rainy season. From past surveys that we have done I know that many drivers believe they are more likely to get chips in the winter, so they wait until the weather warms up to get their windshields repaired or replaced. We have a mild climate in Eugene, but we are surrounded by mountains and they sand the roads pretty heavily in the winter, creating most of the rock on the road. Construction and travel picks up in the summer so although there is probably less rock on the road, there are more drivers.

Just when I think I have it all figured out my crystal ball gets a bit cloudy.

As a retail focused biz I have noticed my August sales are good but I would expect them to be better due to the nicer weather and more potential work days. But, lots of families are taking vacations as schools start early September here. After the second week of September sales will pick up as people settle back into their routines and begin to think of the cold winter months ahead.
Brent, your post was right on.

I have never noticed a difference but if you have a well mixed client base Commercial/Retail/Auto Dealerships when one are slows the other will take up the slack also an excellent reason to have a couple other things in your offering

I used to live in Yuma, Arizona. Less than 3 in. of rain per year. But never a water shortage. The canal system is so good. They hardly know what rain is down there. When it does rain, people stand in the street and gawk at it.
