Heads up display

Post by Brent Deines »

How many of you have repaired a heads up display windshield?

Has anyone had a lot of experience with HUD windshields?

Brent,
I have repaired 2 in 8 years in this area. One was a Grand Prix and the other was a Honda Civic or Accord can't remember which. I had no problems and then I checked the HUD and didn't see any problems with display.

Was the break in the area of the HUD or another part of the W/S?

Both breaks were inside the HUD area. In my case both were early model HUD screens and you can see the area about the size of 6x6 in the lower part of glass.

That's interesting. I have not had much feedback from customers on this issue and have little personal experience to draw from, so I'm hoping others will chime in as well. Someone I have a great deal of respect for advised me not to perform repairs in the HUD area, but I'm always interested in the results technicians are seeing from their own testing in the field.

This type of information simply cannot be found anywhere else.

Brent, what were the reasons this person gave you for not repairing the HUD? I have done a few, but don't remember if the repair was in the HUD area. The windshield part of the HUD is just a reflective panel between the inner glass and the PVB. I can't imagine how a repair on the outside could have any effect on the HUD.
