As I'm still considering starting my own repair business as I was wondering how you repair windshields if the weather turns cold. I know here in PA it gets well below freezing in winter, how does that affect the resin and the tools? Is the same integrity being maintained as a warm weather repair?
Thank-you

Re: cold weather repairs
Hello Tim,
My name is Brian or on the forum I go by SGT. You called me the other day with questions on the business, tooling and training. I also live PA but further north and we have been doing cold weather repairs for years now with success. In my opinion the biggest limiting factor with cold weather repairs will be the effect the temp. has on you. Your ability to endure the elements. You definately will have to take percautions with cold weather repairs such as warming the windshield to an optimal range for repair and then keeping it there, keep your resin close to the temp. of the warm glass. There are other percautions as well but once you the windshield at an optimal repair temp.(Check with your tooling MFG), but lets say 70deg, well 70 deg. in the summer is the same as 70deg. in the winter. So most definately repairs can be done in the winter with the same structural results and success as any other season. It is all in the repair prep work. As for the tooling, I use Delta Kits as we discussed and keep my tooling inside in the cold season to prevent it from getting cold soaked. In my opinion, the sooner I can get the tooling set up and repair started, the sooner I can get in the vehicle to warm up!!!! Delta Kits tooling is advanced technology, engineering and design, deleivered through user simplicity. As a full time jet technician tooling is very important to me. Of course like everything it is a preferance and I consider Snap-on tools to be the best the same as I consider Delta Kits to be.
I know you said you were researching so again look beyond the marketing hype, choose wisely and get trained. With proper training you will do good repairs with whatever choice you make. If I can assist with anything, you have my number just give me a hollar.
Oh I wanted to ask you the last time we talked...Do you own a glass shop? Your name popped up in a google search.
