Delta's new tool...
Greetings all,
I attended the Delta training class in Jan. 08 and was very impressed with the education it provided. While it was easy to get the injector in the exact position on a vertical "practice" glass in a classroom, I had a great deal of difficulty getting accurate placement of the bridge/injector when doing a repair on a windshield (using the mirror on the inside of the glass actually made it worse).
This affected the results and quality of my work to a point where I stopped doing repairs.
I decided to attend another Delta training class held in Eugene last month (Oct.) and discovered that a "centering tool" had been introduced. I don't know if anyone had mentioned it on the forum, but this $8.00 tool made it ridiculously simple to precisely position the seal of the injector EXACTLY over the opening where resin is to be injected. I was stunned at how easy this item corrected my previous dysfunctional attempts when making repairs.
In short; if you don't have this tool (and have had similar problems that I had), get it.
Best of luck to all,
David T

Revive,
The Centering Tool part number is CT500 and our retail price is $8.00. You would need to contact Graham to see what he sells it for.

I have been useing an AWL for this for years. It is very helpfull when a break is in the center of the shield. I don't need to lean near as far on a vehicle. I do it on most breaks, just loosen the bridge and align the seal and your good to go.

maxryde,
Yes, an awl would function well as a centering tool to position an injector accurately. So would a 16# finishing nail or an aluminum knitting needle (both of which I was considering using).
While any of these items would be effective in allowing a windshield repair technician to effectively center a bridge/injector in the appropriate position, the $8.00 "centering tool" is not only a bargain, it admirably matches the standards of the rest of the equipment offered by Delta Kits.
While this is just my humble opinion and I'll admit I haven't seen "all" the equipment sold by other WSR companies, once you have used it, it becomes clear that this item was designed to "seamlessly" work with the Delta bridge/injector (instead of substituting an awl or other pointed object that wasn't designed or intended to repair windshields).

Re: Delta's new tool...
Good point David, I suggest this tool also, however it was not available when I started so I improvised. The tool I use is lesser quality and price too. If I were to order a kit today I would make sure this tool was on my list!!

The inspection mirror works great for me. Just look in the mirror and line it up....no need for additional tools.

Sometimes I use an awl.
Sometimes I use one of those thin red straws you use to stir your coffee. ( the price is right)
