Crack repair question AGAIN
Crack repair question AGAIN
Ok .... I did several long crack repairs today.... Standing outside the vehicle the crack is barely visible.... Get inside and BAM crack stands out like a sore thumb. Is this normal?

Re: Crack repair question AGAIN
Crack repair is really for the long term experienced tech there is a knack to it that takes a great deal of time to learn I can do them but choose not too as far a being visible from inside you really have to work cracks from both sides if you don't get it wicked into the break the exterior will look good but not down at the laminate level and they look bad from the inside. Have you tried a crack expander?

Re: Crack repair question AGAIN
Long cracks will always be visible from certain angles, which is why it is so important to inspect the break from every possible angle before, during, and after the repair. You should be able to clearly see the resin filling the crack from a certain angle, and after the cure it should still be apparent that it is completely filled from that same angle. If that is the case you have done all you can, even if from some angles it still catches some light.

Re: Crack repair question AGAIN
I sell crack repair as a structual repair not a cosmetic repair, although I do make sure everyone I do is as full as possible. Most people struggle to get moisture out of cracks and do not think about the part behind the edge trim.
Re: Crack repair question AGAIN
Hello all, today i tried to fix a crack on a coach ,the crack was a u shape ,part of the crack went around the sharp curve where the glass goes into the body of the coach. This was the hardest part to fill probably because of the shape .Is there a technique to get around such a curve on the windscreen.
Crack sucess rate?
For Bullseyes and Stars my sucess rate is approx 99.8%. For cracks over 3" and cracks extending to the edge of the glass ...my sucess rate is WAY lower! I am new to the business, probably have 5,000 or so chip repairs under my belt, but still find cracks challenging! Ya'llto?
Re: Crack repair
I have been chip repair for about 9 months. I try to stay away from the cracks, but every now and then I get a call from someone who says they have a chip and it turns out to be a crack. I successfully fill the chip and can successfully create my stop at the end of the crack, however, no matter how many times I watch the DK video, I really don't know if that crack has successfully sealed. I have used my crack expander, but I can't say that 100% of the time I am successful in filling it. It is obviously still there. Makes me wonder if the repair was successful. Is it just me feeling this way?

Re: Crack repair question AGAIN
Windshieldtech, if you have all the air/moisture out of the crack and filled with resin then it is repaired, are you having trouble seeing that which is air/moisture?
Re: Crack repair question AGAIN
Screenman, thanks for asking. The problem is when adding a little resin in intervals as DVD says, I really cannot see the crack filling. It looks the same to me as it did when I started. I have used the expander, but I am not seeing the difference. I do not see the crack disappearing little by little as it should, even with the use of expander...not sure what I am doing wrong.
