Cash Jobs Question

Post by Brennan29 »

Hey all, Just got a question about how most of you guys handle cash jobs as far as warrentying your work. Most of the glass comanies ive ever worked for would have a deal with the costumer that if the repair ever failed or if they were just unhappy with the way it looked, the company would deduct the price of the repair and put it towards the purchase of a new windsheild. That was the(lifetime) warrent. My question is, How does one go about warrentying a repair without the backing of an installation company? Do you guys offer cash back?

My other question is, In the event of a Crack out with a cash costumer, what do you do? This is a question that I dont have any idea about being I luckely have never been so unfurtunate to have this happen on a cash job. :)

Thanks again guys.

Crack out? During the job? Easy! Repair it, if not possible, for whatever reason, do not charge the customer. Warranty for a repair only vendor should be as follows; the work is guaranteed for as long as the current owner owns the vehicle, the guarantee cannot be transferred. If I were you; I would print that on the order forms. Also, being a repair only vendor (are you?), you should (in my opinion) offer the work on a no cure - no pay basis. Make clear that you will never be liable for any further damage causesd while you perform the repair -or after you have finished the repair.

If a repair was to fail I would return the cost of the repair and no more, I would not in any circumstance pay for a replacement. Only happened twice in 21 years and both times on old large damage that I knew I should not have touched.

Thanks Guys, Some great ideas, "No Cure No Cost" sounds like a good methed. And the non-transferrable warrenty is a great point. Yes I am a repair only vender, but ive also worked as an installer as well. In the few years Ive been repairing windshields I have only had two crack outs myself, an both happened on very hot days so that probably had everything to do with it.. Oh and I would never offer to pay for a replacment for any reason, Ive been in the game long enough to know how fast that would send me to the poor house..

Now as for insurance claims, do you guys use the same methed, if so, how do you go about refunding an insurance co. for a failed or unsatisfactory repair?

Thanks again guys.

I cracked out a window or 5 while repairing for 3 years now, 4 of them in my first year. If I brake a window on a cash job and the customer is really bummed out i would just (let someone) replace the window for him. Most of the customers that pay for the repair themselves have old simple cars with not too expensive windshields anyway...
