LOokie Lues "Stay Away"

Post by shermfiddle »

You know what I mean?....Clients that insist on watching every move you make while repairing their glass. It's not a problem until they continue to "bug" you until you just want to say things like "Get the heck out of my face!" I personally don't mind explaining what I'm going to do to repair their windshield..I also educate them on what a windshield is made of and how the trapped air in the damage is removed with my equipment. But PLEASE! I thought it might be interesting to get some input on this subject. I love this business and please don't get me wrong..I really don't mind my clients hanging around except when they get too close for comfort. I have handed clients safety glasses and explained that the resin from my injector might strike them in the face or even the eye...that doesn't really do the trick or keep them away, also I trying to keep them busy with the paper work...soooo lets hear from some of you "glass specialist" on what you do?

Hmmm, never really had a problem with onlookers. I explain what I am going to do and what the outcome will be and then I tell them I will come get them when I am done. That usually sends the message that I don't need any help.

Nice, I like that one Screenman.

I'm looking for a good black tea, commercially available in the US. The standard Twinnings isn't doing it for me any more. Any suggestions?

Please get back on topic or move this conversation to the water cooler. I'm getting a lot of mail from members who would like to keep the windshield repair forum about windshield repair.

Thanks.

Ok,

In my opinion, there are a few ways you could ask nicely that the client back away from the work area.

If you wish to explain to your customer about windshield repair, give them the 30 second summary about what you are doing, and try to guide them over only to see the parts of the process that you want them to see. I think someone on the forum once mentioned asking their clients to sit inside the car during the fill process, for an impressive effect.

If having a client stare at you while you're working isn't your cup of tea, you can approach a couple of different ways.

Be direct: "Sir or Madam, this is what I do for a living, and I'd love to explain the process to you, but if you could please wait over here, I can repair the glass faster"

Be funny: "Sir or Madam, the technique for windshield repair is highly classified government information, If I show this to you, I have to kill you."

Or like another mentioned already, work while they are working, work in a garage separate from the client waiting room/space, or simply have them fill out paperwork while you get your job done.

I imagine that some enjoy sharing the art of windshield repair with their clients, and I think this is OK too, but I'm sure you'll find a way to lessen the amount of "lookie lues" that are bothering you :)

This has always worked for me.....

"After I'm done with your repair, I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have"

There will always be one who asks.."Have you ever done this before?"

Answer: Well Ma-am, I was watching this on the Do-it-Youself channel last night, but I fell asleep half way through it....but I think I got the jist of it! Just kidding.

Working under pressure.......

True event

While bringing a huge mirror with 3 outlet holes and a large notch into an elderly womans home....she stood near the whole time with her hands in her hair yelling "oh my god" "oh my god" "oh my god".

Moral to the story.....A few questions won't cut your arm off.

First I apologise to anyone who considered I took the post off line, although my original post was supposed to hold humour its is also one I have used and works.

I am more than happy to talk to anyone and everyone whilst carrying out a repair, somebody cleverer than me on this forum once wrote, never sell a repair to a stranger make them a friend first. Well I enjoy talking to my mates, on top of that I extremely confident in my ability to carry out a repair whilst having a chat. After all it is certainly not rocket science.

Personaly I see no problem whatsoever with posts wandering a bit, I consider a forum to be a bit like chatting in the pub, with friendly and sometimes heated exchanges going back and forth. Oops sorry went off topic again.

So to bring it back again relax, chill, enjoy the time with fellow humans, if they want to look and chat entertain them. At the end of the day they are paying you.
