Repair window/windshield Australia - How to get Best price

Post by balobop »

My rear door quarter window glass got smashed 2 days ago. I feel frustrated to find a right price. This is what i have learned:
- Use yellow page online to get the quotes. Call as many as you can to get all quotes and compare them.
- Avoid O'brien . These guys are expensive , try to rip you off. They quoted me 400$ for 110$ job
- Bring the car to them if you want cheaper deal.
- I brought my car Ralph Moore Auto Glass in Mascot . They have a big warehouse.
- Be patient until find the one in budget.

There aren't many people from down under on this board, but thank you for confirming what we always claim; any BR company (O Brien in Australia) is a big rip off. You may be better off telling your insurer about the huge differences in the pricing you have noticed. Also: Make sure to compare apples with apples!

Frank EU - Windscreens O'Brien operates to the same model that Belron applies worldwide. Their market focus on the private motorist is through the insurance company. There "branch" prices are strictly controlled, so if a private motorist has no insurance cover for glass replacement then they will almost certainly find that Belron companies, e.g. O'brien, are at the top end of the pricing scale. Their focus is geared towards the motorist with insurance cover, offering repair or replacement with just an excess to pay, if any. This model has, and continues to be, very successful, as long as insurance companies provide glass cover in their policies, it will continue. My concern is the amount of market that one company can control and how, through various means, be allowed to control their competitors' business.

GlassEye, I won't reply in detail because we will be wandering off >and be leaving this topic. But, yes, for the best part I do agree.
