Re: Freaking out!
Explain how you found out starbreak was on inner layer, in all the years of repair I have only come across about 10 that have, unless they have been in a major crash. This sounds very much like a simple combination to me.
The small starlegs in a combination are great at hold moisture long after you have dried the surrounding bullseye out. As for drill and the leg carrying on you have not had enough practise, I know I keep on repeating myself but to drill 3 holes and not stop the crack is a serious no no.
Did you try probing the combo to open the legs, did you prime it before placing injector over, did you open the surface up before injecting, so many questions take time now and really think about what went wrong. I am sorry but it sound like you messed up going out before you are ready. If I were these customers I would not give you another chance, make sure you know what you are doing next time. Would an actor get on the stage without rehearsals would and athlete race without training, would a windscreen tech go out without full practise? yes we see it every day.
Sorry about the rant but you just took another 2 jobs off somebody who can do the job and has taken the time to train properly.
p.s do you make all your practise chips wet before you star the repairs come on be honest.

Screenman is right, but maybe a bit less drama. I think you need to spend more time working on various types of repairs before you go out and represent the industry. Don't give up, and stay the course. Do a bunch of repairs before you go out and start charging for them. I don't care who is replying to the forum, we have all had bad days, and some very difficult repairs. There seems to be quite a few with all the answers, and some simple resolution to the more difficult questions everywhere you go. Keep in touch with delta, and they will get you where you need to be.

1.Screenman..Your right in that I guess I should not be de valueing the market so I will tone down the freebees. 2.Clearviewwrs I'm having that same problem with cracks running past the minibulls sometimes. I'm also trying to learn the fine art of blunting the crack with a little heat which makes the crack a little with slight pressure and then stop with a rounded edge which sometimes stabilizes the crack.Hang in there clearviewwrs and maybe some of the veteran techs will chime in and help both of us.

If you were aiming at me with some people have all the answers then I am sorry if I appear to know too much about the business. I have been in business longer than Delta and have carried out far more repairs. As you well know experience in the field cannot be replaced by time in the lab. Have respect for Delta but listen to other people as well I am sure they pick up ideas off this forum.
Over the years I have seen this business devalued especialy in the States. Lets make this business look hard that way you can charge more money that is what we are in business for.

Re: Freaking out!
No finger pointing intended screenman. I have been doing repiars since they were first accomplished (long time ago), and I have seen about all the curve balls that can be seen. I have been stumped by many straight forward looking repairs, as well as many complex ones. It's all in a days work. A person must be able to also know when the damage will not be repairable. I am all for making an attempt if it meets your criteria for repair, but don't charge someone for a poor repair. I was not making the statement that Delta was the only company with the answers either, as I understood the earlier question, he is a Delta equipment user, and they happen to have an excellent tech support line.
Lets keep the support flowing, Support being the key word. Delta I know didn't put this Forum out here for people to discourage each other, they provided a place for us to discuss issues and share in what works and what doesn't. I have worked for someone else for many years, and now I am going to attempt a business of my own part-time for now. I need some good advise on what works for advertising, and what is not good to use.

You will face people like Screenman, who will tell you "you cant do it, you will fail, there is no way you will make it" etc etc etc
Do not listen to them. You will make it! I am now have so much experience, I can tackle any job with no problems. It will just take time and more time, and more practice. I just added replacement as well. Staring next week, I will be scheduling those appts.

Screenman: If you dont have anything normal to say, then just dont say anything. I didnt steal anything from anyone!

When exactly did Graham say ? :~ " You will face people like Screenman, who will tell you "you cant do it, you will fail, there is no way you will make it" etc etc etc"
the only thing Graham was banging on about was the importance of training and practice before going live on punters motors!

Re: Freaking out!
ClearView WRS You sure read my very old post far different from the way it was written that is for sure. I never said you would fail in fact I help many guys on the path to success with screen repair ever year. As Revive says I was telling you to get training and practise like mad, reading your post now I see you agree with me, thank you.
You will in time I am sure come across jobs that have been done before by someone less experienced than yourself who has done a very poor job, you may just think why did they not leave it alone to let somebody properly trained do the job, or sorry customer but someone who is poorly trained has already mashed up the repair making it impossible for me to improve, if they had not done so I could have carried out a proper repair and earnt myself some money.
