Another Large Chip Question

Has anyone tried this?...
Place a chip saver over a chip with a large impact hole.
Make a small hole in the cure tab
Mount the injector over the hole in the cure tab and inject resin thru the hole.
Remove injector and add pit resin and cure tab.
Did it work ok?

I too wonder if it works.

I did watch a video on you tube where a tech placed cure tape ovid with missing tape
Before starting the repair. I suppose it go to well because the finished product wasn't shown.

I wonder how the resin and the glue from the chipsaver would mix together?

This is the reason I stll have a practise screen, when I think of an idea I can try it out. This idea I tried out some time ago and it failed, that was before I thought of the above.

Haven't tried a chip saver, but did something similar a while ago. Used regular superglue to bond a pit tab to the glass around the chip. It helps to scuff the pit tab so the glue has some "teeth". But it never worked well. Usually putting a little pressure on the resin would lift the tab right off the glass. Probably the chip saver would do the same thing, the resin would work its way under the tab and lift it so all the resin would be lost, and now you have a partially filled chip with no good way to inject more resin. I think this could work, but I haven't found the correct adhesive yet.

I have had two large chips, side by side, that my large, low pressure nozzle would not cover both holes at the same time. I could not get a vacuum so I used my pit filler on one and cured the opening. I got this idea from a friend of mine who does hundreds of repairs. When the area cures with the pit resin, smooth it off carefully and use the high pressure nozzle to fill the chip and cure. The hole that has been filled with pit filler then has to be drilled open by carefully penetrating the filler just deep enough to open the pit again. Use the high pressure nozzle to fill. If the pit is not receiving the resin, stop and use a heavy needle or slide hammer to pop the bottom of the drilled hole to break it open and connect the legs and inject and fill.
It's a little time consuming but I get my extra fee for a second chip for doing this type of repair. Try is out, it works every time.

I did more less the same thing last week on a job with a large void in the glass. I did not fill the whole void with the THICK pit filler but I did put it around the outer side trying to leave the center of the void open. I then bladed off the cured resin and set up with out any troubles.

It was like WELDING a hole closed. Start on the outer edge and working you way in... I just left the center open. I did not have to drill it out at that point......
