Where to Buy Drilling Burs?

I ordered 100 burs from Delta Kits a few years ago.
I still have loads of them left.
I prefer not to drill and I only drill as a last resort, as I the repair to be as invisible as possible.

So what am I doing wrong? To impatient perhaps? Some people never drill but I'm using the Maxim machine and I still can't get the fill right at times without drilling. I find the original pit is no smaller than the drilled hole and I get it done right that way everytime, but don't get me wrong, I don't like drilling.

Since you are using a GT product, I'd suggest calling them for tech support!

What are you using the ball end burs on, steel or concrete? This is what I have always used and as mentioned before 12 a year on average. However I must add that these are a quality bur purchased from Delta.

I don't want to drill so much, but I'm finding the same as others that not drilling is taking too long. I get a lot of really tight stars and batwings that drive me crazy when I don't drill to open them up. I'm only drilling to get the resin in and I don't see that it leaves any more of a scar than not drilling. The repair usually take me half the time, and working in the New Mexico sun, that makes good sense to me. Resin cure rates are really fast here and even using a good shield I'm nervious it will cure before the damage is completely filled.
I'm all about using the best products and equipment, so paying 2 bones for a good bit is not my beef, it's the shipping when I only need bits. Usually 10 bucks for a couple of tubes kills me, that's like paying 3 buck a bit. Albuquerque has very outlets for supplies so I have to do a lot of mail ordering to get what I need.
Like I said, I'm getting good mileage out of the bits I use, but I'm all about saving whenever I can. Some places will send a bit out by mail just too let touch and feel it before jumping in. What do you think?

I agree with Dave M. If you are having to drill and the manufacturer of your equipment claims that should not be necessary, you should contact them for assistance. Most Delta Kits users don't drill often as filling tight stars and bat wings are not a problem if the equipment is being properly used. We show everyone how to fill these types of breaks without drilling in all of our training classes. I am not however the best person to give advice on other systems.

As for doing repairs in the hot New Mexico sun, we have lots of customers who do repairs in your area and don't find it necessary to drill. A good UV shield will block out all, or nearly all of the sun's UV rays, and the heat has nothing to do with cure time.

I do however understand that time is money in this industry, and if drilling really speeds up your repair process by 50% I can see why you would do it. I just have not found that drilling sames much time, and therefore rarely find it necessary. I also think I can almost always spot a repair that has been drilled, even if the average consumer may not notice the difference.

Hey there Guys, You can pay through your nose when getting burs etc from some of the windshield repair kit companys $ How a about a Dentist supplier for 100/midwest #1170 burs pay approx $150.00 including postage?

Is that not much the same Price as Delta charge? How about supporting the trade so that they can keep investing in ours and their future. Could someone please work out what it costs them per repair in bur costs. My costs are so small I cannot even calculate them, 12 burs or so per annum is not a fortune even if they were bought one at a time. I would guess at about $2 for every $5,000 tiny.

The original question simply asked for ideas on where to buy burrs. If he uses 12 burrs or 1000 a year should be a moot point! That being said, I'm all for supporting our own, but as we are self-employed, why not look for the best deal?

I see guys over here spending more time trying to save pennies instead of spending the time making money. We do the job the suppliers supply the tools, suits me fine. However I am more than happy for the guys in my area who do the same job to spend thier time trying to save the few coppers.

Now I asked if someone else could come up with a cost per job of burs, just to confirm my findings. I would appreciate if someone else would help on this one.

At the end of the day as self employed people we are lucky enough to do as we like, I am just puttiing my view of the situation the same as everyone else.

Buy top quality burs from a reliable source and you should be alright.

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH SCREEN
I used to use a bunch of bits but after Jeffs never drill except as a last resort advice I now dont use ten a year havnt had the drill out of the box in a couple weeks Im lazy and store it in the bottom of the box with the bit in it I replace more because they broke off while bouncing around than I do because the wear out
