plateglass repair

Post by rovinax12 »

I am relatively new in the windsheld repair business and do mobile work in my home town. WAS ASKED TO REPAIR A STAR BREAK IN A LARGE PLATE GLASS WINDOW. THE TECHNIQUE USED ON WINDSHIELDS WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS?

Most (laminated) plate glass damages should normally be easy to be repaired. What exactly were you doing and what system are you using? Under what angle (approx) was your injector while you were doing the repair work?

You dont use a injector Delta has a great Plate Glass Resin I have done several big BB/Bullet holes with great success put a piece of clear packing tape over the small contact point and a large piece over the inside divot pull back the top piece a little let the resin flow into the pocket fill to top to eliminate any bubbles close tape down and cure remove tape polish and clean as needed its pretty easy
Cracks in the plate glass should be avoided in most cases USA insurance companies/lawsuits will eat you alive if the big plate cracks falls out and hurts someone after you have repaired it and the first time someone leans on it or a big truck goes by the flex will ruin your repair anyway

Rovinax12! Welcome! It’s a great pleasure to welcome you the Windshield Repair Forum. The Forum seeks to provide a place where those interested in the windshield repair industry can discuss all aspects of the field today.

The President of our company Brent Deines has done lots of plate glass repairs over the past 20 years, using Delta Kits plate glass resin. The process is very simple, but also very different from windshield repair. A good UV light is very important, but other than that no special equipment is necessary.

Plate glass repair is a niche market that not many delve into, but for those that do, it can be very lucrative. Please give him a call if you would like to get a list of materials you need. He would be happy to discuss the products you need, provide you with instructions for the process, and share the details of his experience with plate glass repairs.

I agree with korey when I decided to try the Bullets holes I called Brent and he sent me a how to fact sheet that was easy and worked perfect I had a dealership with huge plates in the front that were 1000 bucks plus a piece that someone shot with a BB/Pellet gun I bought the Plate Glass resin followed Brents Instruction Sheet it was easy to do the repairs and they looked good
