Hey Guys/Gals,

Just a quicky here for ya!

2009 Ford Mustang. Lower Drivers portion of glass.
Was repairing a star break. Unfortanetly I couldnt get my Moisture Evaporator close enough to generate some heat <Typically this always works for me in closing legs> Due to the dimensions of the dash. There just wasnt enough room to easily apply with the Moisture Evaporator However I used a lighter but the legs didnt fill.

Just to let you know this chip was fairly fresh mid morning accident. I got my hands on it late evening.

I did flex the glass.

Would it be just best to get that heat to it from the outside? Post or Prior to repair?

I prefer to always heat from the outside when possible. Depending on the temperature of the glass when you started I would warm the glass prior to the repair, then add more heat if necessary.

Just to clarify, you don't want to heat until the cracks close, but only apply enough heat to aid in getting the resin to flow out into the cracks. If you get the glass so hot that the cracks close you may not get the cracks to completely fill, in which case they could open back up when the glass cools.

Could the legs have been on the inside layer of glass? If so, heat and flexing will not get them to fill.

I really cannot remember the last time I used heat to help fill a leg.

Now I doubt anyone will do this experiment, warm a star up until the legs shut and see how long it takes for the to fully open again to where they were before, you will be shocked at how long it takes. We have done this and sometimes find the legs do not open again without flexing.

Of course we hope you dried out and used a UV shield and had enough resin in the injector to do the job, etc, etc.
