Re: Where do you put your toolbox?
Hi Dave,
We do fleets only, that makes things less complicated. If we do garage work, it is only for truck dealers. We can always park our service vehicle next to, or in front of the vehicle we're working on.
I honestly cannot remember the day that we had to get our tool boxes out of the vehicle and carry them to our work location.
So far for Europe.
However, in the US we have tool boxes with wheels, they have proven to be handy for our work there, we simply walk the lot.
Yet, also in the US, we never 'park' our stuff on the hood (or use the hood as a storage place for tools etc.).
I know that others do, and that they indeed never have damaged anything, that's good, but we have chosen not to use the hood.

Advice to new guys, If the tool box is placed in the shade do not assume that there is no UV about, there is and lots of it.

Re: Where do you put your toolbox?
Since we are on the toolbox subject.......if the resins that we are using are in containers that don't allow UV in and the openings are capped, AND the injector openings are also capped preventing UV from curing any remaining resin in the threads or where ever, what is the concern? If all the resin is protected from UV in an open toolbox what can go wrong?

Re: Where do you put your toolbox?
Here's a nice test. May I suggest you to place your (so called uv-resistant) resin bottle (with the opening properly capped) in direct sun light and to leave it there for a few days or even a week? I already know what's going to happen. Do not expect me to pay for that wasted bottle.

Re: Where do you put your toolbox?
I can only imagine the results. I assume you have done this test? Of course we are not talking about that length of time are we? I don't understand how that test would be pertainant to my question. How about 5, 10, or 20 minutes? Hasn't seemed to harm my resins in my so-called UV resistant containers. Again, common sense rules here! I don't leave my box open for the length of the repair. If your toolbox is opened anywhere, UV is present.

dave,I think screenman may be referring to injector parts improperly cleaned and stored can cure together resulting in costly replacement.

Re: Where do you put your toolbox?
I park in front of or beside the vehicle I am working on and then place my Delta Kits toolbox on the tailgate of my truck.
The resin stays in the toolbox, with the lid closed but not locked. If you keep it in the toolbox, you cant knock it over. The closed lid keeps the sun off it.
I also have a smaller compartmentalized 6x8 inch tupperware type container containing cure tabs, pit resin, razor blades, slide hammer, which I set on top of the hood protector. I find that if I just set stuff on the hood protector, it is likely to roll off and end up on the ground, so the smaller box keeps everything together and within easy reach.

Re: Where do you put your toolbox?
Here is the information on the tool boxes we are using. It is a proper German brand named Festool and there's a distributor in the US
According the rules we're not allowed to give links here, and I respect that, that is why you'll find (below) only the most relevant part of the information that you need (festoolusa.com/products/systainers/model-comparison.html) >>it is not a direct link, you need to copy and paste this yourself!
We're using the four draw Sortainer and place a Sys2 on top (for the GW injectors, they can be placed in an upright position there).
All resins etc. are stored in the drawers.
In addition we use the Sys3 and/or Sys2 for all our 12Volt gear.
So our set of boxes for windshield repair consist of at least a set of three per vehicle.
We use the same system for our scratch- and headlamp systems.
The boxes are more expensive than anything else, but they are very durable and professional -we don't care for tackle boxes in our vehicles.

No wonder you leave your tool boxes in your truck....those things are huge. A bit over kill in my opinion.Frank EU wrote:Here is the information on the tool boxes we are using. It is a proper German brand named Festool and there's a distributor in the US
