I know this has probably been brought up on another thread, but I cannot find the answer to a question that has nagged me for a long time. What is the maximum number of repair you would do on a windshield before recommending replacement. I just had a vehicle in my shop with seven chips, two in the drivers line of sight, and I recommended replacement. All answers would be appreciated.
Thanks.....Karl

7 Chips, 1 WS!! Wow!! Not seen that yet the most I have seen on 1 WS is 4.
Typically Insurance says the limit is 3 anything over that that say "Relace" it.
However As I do explain to my clients this same I also let them know its their choice.
Just keep in mind that repairing 7 chips could be the same cost as a new WS. But not everyone Holds Firm on their pricing.
Maybe you can be the HERO to that customer. I'd say repair the first 4 and give them the other 3 FREE! That could earn you some points for a long term client and some!
Good Luck!

I agree with 4 because after that it not very profitable to you or cost worthy to the client.Even at 4,i do consider where they are and how bad they are.I dont want to repair a really large ugly chip in the line of view but if you do make sure they sign a wavier that will release you from any liability.I do a lot of fleet work as well as individual and I do not repair chips in the drivers view of these trucks.I actually had a lynx job that had 5 in it and the lady gave me $20 tip for repairing the extra 2.I was already there and I didnt want to go home empty handed.I knew that Allstate would only pay upto 70 dollars for 3 chips. This ended up being a 90 dollar stop and she was fine on top of that.

Re: Maximum Repairs Allowed?
I've had many chips on motor homes especially. Large vertical glass, lots of exposure. I've done over ten on one that really got splattered by a passing truck. On a car or truck, I've done four or five but if there's any in the line of vision or there are a lot of sand pits then I tell them they would be better off with new glass. All depends on where the chips are and how bad they are and if that customer is really "in love with that piece of glass." Yeah, I ask them that if it looks like the repair cost will go over half the price of a new WS. You have to remember that the motor homes have about 2 to 5 thousand dollars worth of glass exposed to rocks. As long as you are not doing something that will impair the drivers vision, and can save him a thousand dollars or a lot more, I think doing more chips than three or four in this case is justified. I've had single repair jobs billed at over $150 if there is enough damage to an expensive windshield.
