Hello there,
I hope some experienced technicians round here can help me out on this issue.
I know that you can apply tint to your windshield using a plastic film.
But what about factory tinted windshields, is the colour in the PVB layer??? or is the colour introduced in the glass itself through colour pigments?
I have noticed that a lot of cars around here have tinted windshields. And not all tints are the same . Some are green, some are blue. some are dark, others are lighter.. How do you handle those..
And is it easy to figure out if the tint is due to a plastic film rather then a factory tinted window???
really appreciated

Re: Tinted windows help?
You handle tinted windows in my expreince the same as you would a clear one, there is very little glass missing and the resin is clear, that being the case the tint is still there. Some glass is tinted and in some the PVB holds the tint, either way repair the same.

If the damage is fresh there should not be any problem repairing in the tinted area. If the damage has been there for some time what you will run in to is that the shade will bleach out of the break and although you can still repair it the repair will be more noticeable.

Re: Tinted windows help?
The shade band is in the PVB, the tint is in the glass. I'm not sure but I think in most states if not all it is illegal to tint a windshield with aftermarket tint. Tempered glass used on the sides and rear glass in vehicles the tint is in the glass. Aftermarket film is applied to the inside of the glass. Laws vary from state to state on how dark you can tint. Tempered glass is not repairable.
