To buy a franchise or not, really is down to the individual. Some feel more comfortable with the back up and support thing whilst other more independent people prefer to go it alone.
I imagine that the vast majority of forum members are conscientous and endeavour to carry out high quality repairs, I also feel that most of you too are interested in protecting the industry.
Strangely enough those qualities are ones that I possess in copious amounts so I am with you all.
In all honesty though I have been led to believe that $30 was the going price in the U.S
I am really against underpricing of any service but have to weigh up what price a customer will pay the majority of the time against what an odd customer would pay. I only set recommendations and am willing to listen to your experience and knowledge on pricing and introduce that recommendation if it sounds realistic.
So to those of you out there who are against tent locations, you are entitled to your opinion. Remember though a tent location needn't mean poor quality work. I would put my repairs up against anyone in the industry, including anyone on this forum. I sincerely hope that you are all succesful in your businesses however you like running them and that somehow you can come up with a more effective way of generating business quicker than my way. If you do, let me know and I will try to replicate it!

I have found that you get more non-insurance repairs by doing them for $35 than offering them at the insurance rate average of $50. I would rather do 5 @ 35 than 1 @ 50. $175 VS $50. It's simple math whether it is Dollars, Euro's, Lira, Peso's, Chickens or Goats whatever currency.... more is more
Plus there are alot of advantages to cash......................

I'll take my five at $50! I rarely have anyone complain about my price. Let's see, that's my $250 versus your $175. It's simple math.....really.

You've got a good attitude, I'll say that for you, especially with some of the negative stuff said in this thread. I previously worked this business in several cities in the states, and know some places are hard to get a lot per repair because of flooded markets, glass shops, etc. But even so, $30 for retail or insurance pricing seems pretty low. Just an opinion, mind you.

Quote form Mars.

Going Price for what, Retail, Wholesale, Fleet, or all of the above.

I think $30 is lowballing, many people get $60 $70.

My Dad always told me, its easy to give your work anyone can do that, selling it for a profit is a different thing.

Bingo chips1144 ! I think it's lowball too unless perhaps it's fleet or car dealer rate. Charging $30 for a standard repair is way too cheap and only serves to drag down the wsr industry. I really wish some of these schmos would step up and ask what they deserve....unless of course they are doing low quality work.

I just came accross this thread and wanted to jump in. I finally got a tent location (cross my fingers). It is in a spot that a MARS guy had in 2007. I just found it interesting that most of this thread is from 2007. Are these guys still around anywhere or was it a fad at the time?

Now to the pricing thing that was talked about a lot on this thread. I am doing casd at $29.95 which is considered low ball on this forum. I am the new guy in town as well as the highest price in town. Techniglass, novus, Jones Paint & Glass, Slick Willies, and so on are all between $15-$25 for WSR. Pricing is huge here. In California the prices were higher and people cared about quality. In Utah it is all about money. I did my first few weeks here advertising $19.95 WSR which brought me 23 customer in the first two weeks which is not bad for me with no advertising dollars. in the last two months at $29.95 WSR i have had 3 customers per month.

I cannot afford to drop my price, nor can i afford to not get customers because of price.
Is this typical right now just because of the "economy" or is it Utah?

Utah is a very different market place. There is always someone who will low ball, but I don't have to tell you just how low some of the prices are there. It's very unfortunate. However, it never ceases to amaze me how much business is there. A lot of ski areas, snow, sanding, and construction certainly put Utah right up there with Colorado for windshield damage. There also seems to be quite a bit of money and people who care about their cars, so I really don't understand why the pricing is so unreasonably low.

I believe there is a lot of State Farm insurance customers in Utah so back when they were still waiving deductibles there was a great deal of insurance work to be had, but now a large part of the windshield repair business there is case from what I'm told. Do you find that to be true bullseyebean?
