I do not have the 'eye' yet for seeing chips in strangers cars. I suppose if i stood on top of the car and looked like a burglar then, yeah, maybe.
all of the cars here have dead bugs.... so it is hard for me to see the chip or if there is one while just 'walking the lot'.
Is there a trick? (Yeah...I may need new glasses)
I washed windows for years and it took some time to learn to see the window and what side the 'spec' was on during the detail phase.
Is this like that? (did i really just write: "is this like that?")

If the w/s is covered in bugs it is a bit harder to see. A clean w/s is always best.

Re: Chip seeing?
I see them all the time!
But then at the back of my mind, I am looking for them.
I also like to look at cracked windshields to see where the initial impact point was that created the crack in the first place.
Sometimes when you do a repair, the customer may have an extra chip that he hasnt noticed yet.
More chips = more money.
But then at the back of my mind, I am looking for them.

You're right Mr Bill...sometimes my wife gets mad at because I am several steps behind her in parking lot because I am looking at w/s and headlights. I tell her it's like find money on the ground. LOLMr Bill wrote:I see them all the time!

On a different note Mr. Bill, I will out your way in October. We are coming out west to San Francisco to see my father-in-law and we are going to spend a few days in Santa Cruz. Maybe we will get a chance to meet.

No trickery, just lots and lots of practise. On the glasses thing, it suprises me how many guys turn up for training with poor eyesight and no glasses.

Re: Chip seeing?
It will get easier as you get more comfortable with what to look for and your eyes get sharper. If you need glasses that will give you an immediate boost I am sure. You may find you develope a pattern that is easy for your eyes to sweep the windshield and still keep pace with your stride while being able to spot the "money". There will always be the one that require a double take though know matter how long you have been at it. Good luck to you.
