I am new to the repair side. Worked for large auto replacment company. Looking to get OUT of current business (landscape) and into WR and headlight restoration. The new kits/systems all seem so close to same. Any advice on which (and why) would be helpful. My main goal is to start small and work mostly for dealers/shops/fleets. Still confused on the Billing services for Ins. work.....???.....
BUT..help on the systems would be greatly appreciated. OH..if it helps, im in MD by Annapolis.

Re: New (Sort of) Which Kit
Windshield repair systems are not all the same. In fact there are some very significant differences, not only in equipment, but in the technique that will be used with that equipment. Obviously I am biased, so I won't try to convince you Delta Kits windshield repair systems are the best, but I will encourage you to attend one of our training classes. There is no purchase necessary to attend a Delta Kits training class and the cost is only $100 in Eugene. You also get a $100 credit toward the purchase of a complete Delta Kits windshield repair system if you attend, but the main thing is that have the opportunity to try before you buy.
I would also encourage you to make sure you get a written money back guarantee from whoever you purchase your windshield repair system from. Delta Kits will send you a full refund if you are not completely satisfied with no questions asked. You even get to keep any money you make in the 30 day trial period. I would hope that all other reputable manufacturers would make the same offer. Remember the "in writing" part as I get e-mails and calls all the time from unhappy technicians who thought they could return their windshield repair systems only to find out the verbal guarantee was not worth much.
If you narrow it down to 2-3 systems but just cannot decide, purchase all of them so you can compare them side by side. Keep the one you like best and return the rest.
You can also visit a trade show where leading manufacturers give product demonstrations. The NACE show is in just a couple of weeks and offers just such an opportunity. We'll even let you try a repair yourself in our booth at NACE. You can watch the Windshield Repair Olympics while you are there and talk to all of the competing technicians about the equipment they use and their experiences with their suppliers.
This is a very service oriented business so don't be afraid to push the suppliers a bit. They need to stand behind their products with an iron clad guarantee and should give you all the information you need to make an educated decision. You should be treated with respect and not pushed to make any purchase you are not comfortable with.
As for insurance billing, we would be happy to answer your questions. We don't recommend any particular billing solution, but we do no a fair amount about several of them and we can help you get signed up with the third party administrators like Lynx, Safelite, and Harmon. Make a list of your questions and give us call for more information. It's also helpful to have an idea of how many repairs you expect to do per month before you sign up for a billing solution. The best solution for 4 claims a month may not be the best solution for 400 claims per month.
