esurance

I received this email from esurance this morning. looks like a good marketing piece to sell the green angle of repair

Windshield repair is significantly more cost effective than replacement.

Save a Windshield, Plant a Tree
Esurance, in a partnership with HSG, has launched a new
program to plant one tree for every windshield claim that results in
repair instead of replacement.

Windshield repair, in which trained technicians utilize special
equipment and glass repair resin, is significantly more cost
effective than replacement. It's also safe since the glass is never
removed and the original factory seal isn't broken.

If chips or cracks are smaller than a dollar bill, and aren't in the
driver's direct line of sight, technicians can now fix them instead of
replacing the entire windshield.

Having a crack repaired is also more environmentally friendly,
since it takes about 250,000 BTUs to manufacture a 30-pound
windshield. To put that into perspective, the average U.S. home
consumes that amount of energy per day!

If you get a small crack or chip in your windshield, don't wait for it
to get bigger (and more dangerous). Filing a windshield claim
won't affect your insurance rates, so have it fixed right away and
repair instead of replace. It's safe, fast, and good for the
environment. Plus, when you do, we'll plant a tree in your honor.
Get the whole story here.

Yes. It is usefull and has its' place. Most, if not all, information would already have been available, known, to most ''veterans'' in our trade.
Still it is very usefull to repeat things, especially for the many new people. But also for the insurance industry (they sure read this board).
I would say: use the information wisely and be more pro repairs.

There is just one thing that may lead to a renewed and long discussion: that is the controversial ''maximum advised dimension'' they use.
Or is it not even an advice, I don't know. It just shouldn't be there.
Because ''the size of a Dollar bill'' has been reason for endless discussions in our trade, there is no need to use and specify that dimension really.
Just my opinion, you may have another.

They must have a big garden, if each time I did a repair I planted a tree I would have my own forest. Interesting thing about the insurance and not effecting rates, over here you often will not pay an excess although that is changing, however if you decide to change insurers they will ask if you have had a claim and a WSR does count as one, this will not effect your no claims bonus but may give a premium increase, different things so I am told.

So in good old Yorkshire parlance, you don't get ought for nought.

I have since the beginning used most of the other points they talk about to sell WSR. Novus used to say why replace 8 square feet when you can repair 2 square inches.
