Re: MONEY AND TIME SAVING TIPS
Used it again today and didn't like it. I had to use so much tape to hold it in place it didn't save me anything. Plus half way through the job it fell off and so I just taped it off. I think I need to cut my plastic in smaller pieces so it's not so heavy.

Re: MONEY AND TIME SAVING TIPS
Roo ! I purchased at Wal-mart in the kitchen section a small role of rubber like shelf liner.
It sort of sticks better than the smooth liner. I tried it on a mustang and it worked ok, however I think I could have taped it off faster without the liner. The good side of using the rubber liner at the bottom, I didn't cut through it like the tape, or have it curl up when it got wet. I will keep working with it for a while. It comes in 12" & 15" widths. I am using about 20" lengths. I even tried small strips of vinyl to see if that would work. I will keep you guys posted after I do several more HLR: Candyman

Re: MONEY AND TIME SAVING TIPS
Update on tape use: I talked with two detailing/body shops for a large Toyota & Ford dealership reference film lifting up from bumpers of some vehicles. This is an agreed assumption that the bumpers had been repaired and it was not done properly. If the bumper was not properly prepared (sanded) prior to being sprayed with clear coat, the coating will lift off with the tape. The CC was unable to adhere to the bumper properly. Some body shops fail to sand good around the lights, fender wells, door jams and trunk lid areas. prior to painting. They recommend to test an area near the fender /wheel well first, or look for signs of clear coat flaking/peeling: Some shops are using a yellow/greenish tape in lieu of the blue. Another recommendation is to detape the sticky. Pull a piece off and place it on the legs of your jeans and remove, then use it on the vehicle. It should still be sticky enough to hold. Also use short strips of thin cardboard or anything that you think will work, such as painters paper, a trimmed table plate matt or the shelving paper with a grip backing to seperate the bumper & headlight.

Yep, the green 3M tape is automotive refinishing tape and I would think even more aggressive than the blue which is used mainly for household paintwork. However, the green tape is probably cheaper at an body shop supply store than the blue tape is at Walmart or Home Depot. I agree if the bumper would have been painted properly to begin with either tape would not peel the clearcoat off.

We work with a lot of bodyshops and they all have confirmed this as well. The best practice is to look for signs of repainting and to warn the customer.

Re: MONEY AND TIME SAVING TIPS
Like I said several months ago when Candyman first had this problem, most bumpers on any purchased used car has has some bumper work. With painted plastic bumpers the first thing that gets damaged or scratched is the bumper. Bug damage is also huge and can only be resolved by repainting the bumper. Some painters use the cheapest materials they can find to complete the repair and subsequently the clear peels with very little involvement.
