3000 grit disc's

How long are your 3000 grit polishing disc's good for. About how many sets of lights with they do?

Ok, I just received them today, of coarse after I did two cars today. I do have some 1000, 2000, and 4000. I have been using them on for maybe 4 -6 cars so far, I suppose it is time to change them out to the next set... I was not told how long they are to last, they seem to still be cleaning up the lights but It takes a little but more time...

For best results Delta Kits recommends using one sanding disc per vehicle. However, sanding discs can be used more than once but the longevity of the disc depends on the severity of the headlights.

The effectiveness of the sandpaper decreases exponentially after the first set of lenses.

I typically use one disc per lens 2 per car of each grit...it might be a little more expensive that way but I figured it made the repair go faster! Maybe on the finer grits I could use 1 disc for both lights but I don't think the coarse grit would last thru 2 lights.

I have been taking it up one grit at a time, and that has saved on the discs being that they did not have to remove as much, just clear up from the previous disc.
When I get up to 1000 then I go to 2000, 4000, and then I polish down to clear... then a good acrylic polish or wax type polish. If the lights are in verry bad shape then I will Devlup 2 part coat.

This has been working verry well for me.

I normally use 1 pad per vehicle but if it still looks good I save it in a bag to use on another vehicle that may need more than one pad of the same type. I was looking at some Detailing shop data and I saw a article or memo on not using Checicals below 45 F degrees. The temp here has reached below 50 during the day and low 20's at night: Iam using a inside bay for $5 each vehicle which makes ite easier for me and out of the cold.

I keep my chemicals in my truck and place them in the sun to warm prior to use. I also turn on the lights (with the car running) for a few minutes prior to, during and after the chemical application and this keeps everything nice a toasty.

There is also a huge difference in the quality of sand paper and polishing disks. We have tried dozens of brands found some are only good for one lens and no more, while others will do several lenses with only a slightly diminishing effectiveness on each one.

Not only does the longevity of the disc vary from brand to brand and type to type, but how well a new disc cuts or polishes as well. We are constantly testing new products and have made several changes in our recommendations over the past couple of years as we have found better performing products. Depending on the brand and type of disc, a 320 grit may cut better than a 240 grit and a 3000 grit may polish better than a 4000 grit.

Unfortunately you cannot always tell by the price which one is best so testing is the only way to know for sure and there are literally hundreds of different brands and types to choose from.
