Spotted:: Technician out in -9 temps WTF?

Post by Ricersux »

I was doing some sales calls as it is -9 (windchill) here in Indiana and low and behold I spot a technician doing a repair on a semi truck with no UV protection, no dry out and no heat! Hell part of the windshield was covered in snow and ice! I would be quite surprised if he could even get close to what I would consider a quality repair. I didn't get a chance to check out the work but I was in shock that someone would do that. This actually creates a bad image for our industry in my eyes...I wish people would just do it the right way. If it is below freezing I always request that the vehicle be inside...my hair dryer can't even come close to getting the glass up to temp and maintaining it when it is below freezing if the vehicle is outside.

You people are nuts. This Texas boy wouldn't even go outside ... period! ...if it were that cold. They are talking about temps into the 'teens here and I'm figuring out ways to stay indoors until it warms up a bit.

I did a few repairs today, the high was 13. They turned out great. It definitely helps to have the right equipment.
1. UV dome
2. Power inverter & hair dryer
3. Moisture evaporator
4. Hand warmers and the proper clothes
5. Alot of patience

I definitely would say it's harder on the tech than anything else. I just need some fleece lined nitrile gloves......lol

You can do great repairs in the cold a frozen ws moisture is pretty obvios to see and if not there some pass on warming it doesnt mean you wont get a good repair just less likley
Many will just do it rather than running the chance of it cracking in the warming process myself i warm the car and put a towel on the glass to hold the heat in as far as no uv protection some times it takes forever to cure in the winter when its overcast that doesnt mean its the right way but I have done it myself on occasion
If you dont do repairs in below freezn weather you would have to take 5 months off in Vermont LOL
