First and foremost, It depends on how deep the scratches are which determines rather or not the scratches can or will remove.
I good way to tell this at home is glide your fingernail vertical along the scratch. If your fingernail falls into the scratch chances are it will not completely remove. If this is the case however you may still be able to lighten the scatch using a Professional Grade High Speed Rotary Buffer w/ Commercial Grade Compound or #5. ( Do Not Do It Yourself If You Have Never Used One) go to your nearest Body Shop or Detail Shop!

Must be some sure hard wood you have over there, tree's here tend to just leave dirty marks on the glass which will normally just come off by hand with some fine rubbing compound.

Its probably just tree sap, I had on older couple come to me thought they had a chip on there windshield and it was tree sap we had a giggle but easy removed with razor blade.
